Check your AIR pump fuse. Mine did the same thing. Fans came on within a few seconds of startup along with the SES light. Turned out to be a blown AIR pump fuse. It's located in the fuse box in the engine compartment.

As for your question, I have my fans programmed to keep the engine temp at around 176* F.

I run around 170. Maybe just over 185 sitting in summer traffic with the fans on.

so i think mine is ok then, now its running at about 170, before the thermostat change it was running about 185 so I didnt think that there should be such a big drop, and the fact that its almost to the bottom of the gauge has me worried

I'll check the fuse.

What does your gauges run from? i am in canada and it goes from 75-125C or 167-257F, so at 170 its pretty much at the bottom

And i'll check that fuse tonight. Thaks for the input guys.

should also mention that i'm running 170 with stock computer and a 180 thermostat, thats why i found it so odd

But this could also be because my fans are on all the tiem, i'll have to get that fixed.

Is that just a regular fuse that it takes?

My car stays around the 175-185 mark. Depends on how many lights I catch. Rarely does the temp rise high enough for the fans to come on. I have a 160* t-stat only...no need to reprogram the fans.

94Z28 gauge...160(dead bottom)............210(middle)....260(red)

so 1/4 tick would be 185 but the gauge is off by 5-10 degrees...says its hotter than it really is

fans are crucial at 1/4 tick first fan is on and a tad over the 2nd comes on...my fans usually always run (at least the low(180) fan does)

so is it normal then that my gauge is reading at the very bottom for temp? it always used to be at 1/4

I just replaced the thermostat with an AC Delco run and now its running right at the bottom (160) but i replaced it with a 180 thermostat.

I also replaced the ECT sensor that feeds the PCM, so the only one of those left that I could do would be the one feeding the gauge?

Also is it normal that the fans are on all the time? Mine seems to come on full blast maybe 10 seconds after starting the car, does this mean that it is in "limp" mode? I dont get any check engine lights or anything on the dash

I have an Auto-meter gauge, 160 stat, Meziere electric pump, and reprogrammed fans. While going down the road the temp is 160-165, fans come on at 180, and the temp never goes above this unless the A/C is on. With the A/C on the temp stays around 190-205 but has never gotten hotter than 215 even when sitting in traffic. My uncoated headers and cam certainly don't help matters, but I am satisfied with the performance of my cooling system. Never once have I had to worry about overheating. After all, the factory doesn't feel the hi fans need to come on until 250 or so. I have verified these temps with a Tech 2 and they are dead on. Props to Auto-meter for a fine product.
