What temp does your car run?

I have a electric water pump with a 160 in it. My car runs at idle about 210 till the fans come on is this normal. What can I do to keep my temp down. Can I make the fans come on sooner?

Thanks,

Tony

that's awefully high...when was the last time you flushed and bleed your cooling system?

Well it used to run like 160-180. Then this weekend they replaced the smog pump. and I check my fluids a forgot to shut the cap. and ever since it has been running hot at idle.

That's not that high at all really, I'd worry if you're going over 230-240 maybe. My 94 was running hot until I put in a 160 degree thermostat and reprogrammed the fans via HPP, and now it runs around 170 even in traffic. This is kind of a pain in the winter because I don't get much heat or defroster though. There are also cheaper options for reprogramming the computer talked about throughout the forum.

You probably got air in the system with the open cap, bleed it.

Mine ran between 160-180* on a 100+ days here in Texas with a 160 thermo and a Meziere h20 pump.

Did you get the CPU reprogrammed for the lower thermo???

If you have an owners manual, the procedure is in there.

mine will never go over 180. That is with 160º thermo, and ground effects, which cut down on air flow alot. I used lt1 edit for fan turn ons.

Well do you think that air in the system will really make a huge diffence?

How can I get the cable for the program and where can I get the program?

Thanks

Tony

Thermo

Mine gets to half way when im at idle for awhile and it drops to 1/4th cruising with a stock thermo. My old one with a HPP and 160 seemed to hardly move.

you can bypass your fan relay and run a switch in to your car and turn it on and off when ever you want. i got it that way so when i am at the drag strip i can shut my fans off right before i fun.

What should a straight stock LT1 with a stock thermo and stock programming run. Mine is all stock and at idle in traffic it runs at half way or just above.

I see a lot of people say their car runs at 180 in 100 degree weather in traffic and I don't see how that is possible or healthy.

Just curious

It wouldn't matter if you had a 120 degree thermostat and a superheavyduty ACME waterpump, if the PCM hasn't been reprogrammed to turn on the fans sooner. You need airflow across the radiator to remove heat from the coolant, so when the car isn't moving it will continue to get hotter until the fans come on. Does the car run at the proper temp (~180) during highway cruise or when AC is engaged? If so then you don't have a problem.

If you still have stock programming than I highly doubt your car ever ran at 180 when it wasn't moving. The stock fans do not turn on until 226 degrees F, unless you are running the AC. Those people who run at 180 in traffic either reprogrammed or are running the AC.
