What are the symptoms of a fried computer?
I believe my computer is fried. I can hook my LT1 Edit, Datamaster and ALLData up to the ALDL port and get no reads. I do have continuity on the wires so I know they are not cut or broken or anything. The thing that is messing with me is the fact that I can still get the car to start. It runs absolutely horrid. No idle, and even with the thing floored it won't go over about 1200 rpms.
Is it possible for the computer to be bad and the car still run? If so does anybody have any experience with this? Anybody know of a way to make absolutely sure the computer is beyond repair? I talked to a buddy who is a mechanic who told me that the "m" pin on the ALDL should toggle between 0 and 5 volts which mine does not do.
This is a new setup. I bought a 383, tranny, and computer out of a wrecked TA. When I originally installed everything, I believe the computer worked because I ran LT1 edit and downloaded the current setup. Now all of a sudden I get nothing. Could I have fried it some how?
Oh yeah and just for ****s and grins. If I hook up a vaccum pump to my map sensor the thing runs fine WTF???

Re: What are the symptoms of a fried computer?
with every pcm that I have broke, when I turn the key the fans turn on automatically. I also have not been able to connect to them with any software, and they usually won't even idle.
Re: What are the symptoms of a fried computer?
if your not getting communication from a scanner it could be something as simple as your cars computer not comunicating with a scanner cause of a faulty ignition module. Might try that
Re: What are the symptoms of a fried computer?
any ideas about the map sensor/vacuum deal?
Also, I have a 383 stroker with the cc306. I've been told that even if the computer was bone stock it should still be able to run and do it correctly. Just not up to it's potential.

Re: What are the symptoms of a fried computer?
Were you flashing the ECM? If you crash it that way, I havent ever seen one start after that. Normally you can get fans to kick on, and then when you turn the key you get a nice click click click. Been there a few times.
Re: What are the symptoms of a fried computer?
So were they able to reflash it? Or did they just send you a new one. The more research I do, the more I think I may have hosed it up by having the laptop plugged into a power cord when I flashed the computer. I'll try getting ahold of him.
