What is a Stroker motor?

I keep hearing this term used, a 355 stroker, 385 stroker etc.
what makes it a stroker?
and a 355, wouldnt that be jsut like smoothing the walls, but not making it larger really, using the stock internals still?

A stroker has a longer stroke than stock (3.48). A 355 just has a larger bore (4.03), no stroke change.

pi/4 x bore^2 x stroke x #cylinders = cid

pi/4 x 4.03^2 x 3.48 x 8 = 355 cid

How good is a 306 stroker? A guy at my school has a custom painted 306 stroker 'Stang. I'd love to be able to beat him with work done to my car. Someone needs to put him in his place.

pi/4 x 4.03^2 x 3.0 x 8 = 306 cid

Your buddy has a .030 over 302 Ford motor. Stroke is still stock (3.0") so it's not a "stroker".

Ha...well...thanks for teaching me something new. He's still got a LOT more done to his car than anyone else. It used to be a drag car. He hasn't done any work to it himself. He bought it straight the way he has it now. That's what makes me mad. He pulls in one day bragging about his car and showing off when all he did was have his parents buy him a ex-drag car. Hasn't even touched the engine himself. Either I am jealous or just really want to beat him in a race.

actually-

Volume = pi * (bore/2)^2 * stroke * number of cylinders

not pi / 4* bore[^2 * stroke * number of cylinders

either that or i'm smoking too much crack and missed something

funny MG-
because i was lost on my phys test so i just picked a random formula and kept going with it.
I got it back

"you work and physics behind this problem are COMPLETELY incorrect. luckily your answer ended up being the correct answer"

hehe, just by chance both answeres were three-
so it does matter how u get there, or else we wouldn't be driving cool cars
