what stall to go with for the street 3000 or 3500

just curious what stall to run this year 3000 or a 3500. other mods include ported and polished heads, xe 224/230, 1.6 rr, and 3.73 gears. its not so much a daily driver anymore but i would still like it to be street friendly. thanks Jason

When I was looking for my stall speed, ppl told me not to go over 3000, and that 2800 would be plenty for me and very streetable as well.

However, I decided to go with a 3200, and I couldn't be happier I would definitely say go with the 3500 if ur looking for some good performance. Although, I hope u have some sticky tires, cuz the torque increase is ungodly

I agree, when I was ordering my vigilante, everyone told me to go no bigger than the 2800, I went 3000 and its kinda too small.

I've heard going anything over a 3000 on an LT1 car and people have problems. Not everyone, but it seems like the majority. Plus I think any stall higher than that won't be very streetable anyway. I have a Vig. 3000rpm and love it. It's a perfect combo with 3:73's and I hardly even notice it anymore. You start getting too radical and the car isn't fun to drive anymore unless your going down the 1/4 mile.

3000rpm stall and 3.73's will get you outta the hole quick. If your hitting the NO2 at WOT you probably won't though lol. I scream outta the hole like a **** with my stall and gears, and I'm not even making as much power as you. I have to make sure the tires are sticky so I can hook though. It feels like I'm right on a thin line most of the time. I think any higher stall will just result in a smoke show.

I just ordered my vig. convertor yesterday and i got a 3000 stall because i heard that you shouldn't go over 3000 for driving on the street. I can't wait to put that in

a buddy of mine is running that cam right now and with 11 psi in the tires he couldnt hook that well. Even though he blew the spider gears out of the rer end and he was still lauching at 3500 with et streets and was getting 1.7x 60'. but my rear end aint busted so i should be ok and im doing some suspesion work also.
what kind of 60' are you pulling and what times.

thanks, Jason

Def. 3500, dont even consider the 3000. I have a vig 3200 and I drive my car everyday and I can only tell its in there because how much more hp/tq I have. Its very very streetable. You get a 3000 and you'll get something bigger down the road. I got mine used for a real good deal but if I was buying new I would of went higher. Wheelman is right the torque increase is awesome and if you'll need some nice sticky tires to go with the T/C or you'll spin real bad like I do.

asked about this to a few LT1 guys years back, Told them I was going w/ the 3000...They then reccomended the 3500...Told me it would be fine on the street...I can believe it I drove a 95 w/ a 2800 and felt like i wanted alot more...You'll also see the differance in the track times

Alright when my convertor gets here i'm prob not going to install it till i get my new tranny but i have a few questions....do you need to reprogram the pcm for the 3000 stall....i heard that if it's over 3000 then you do if not you'll be fine. And are you guys running a tranny cooler as well because of the high stall. I bought one and i just wanna know how hard it is to put in. Thanx

do you have an obd 2 computer if so you dont have to worry about getting it programed because the obd 1 cars are the ones with the problems but if you do have an obd 1 then pcmforless has a program to get rid of the high stall problems in the obd1

Yes a tranny cooler is a definate must. There will be no need for a reprogram.
