What size is stock Y pipe

Whats the size of the Y pipe on a 97 Z28 V8. I am cutting the cats off and putting in straight pipe. So I need to know what size the pipe is so i can order that size pipe and get it expanded over the stock. Thanks

it is 2 1/2"

You would be better off buying an aftermarket y-pipe with no cats. It will be mandral bent and bigger tubing, and will flow alot better. Plus you can save the stock y for emissions time or when you sell the car.

I was just trying to point out somethings that maybe you hadnt thought of.

Its only a matter of time before you have to deal with emissions and if you are keeping the car forever why not do it right and get the most flow?

We don't have emissions yet. But give it a few years and they'll be pushing them again. I made the mistake of dumping my cats, now I don't know what I'm going to do. I might just sell the car and get something else.

The best one ive seen and heard about is the Borla Y pipe. Its mandrel bent and is 2 3/4" which is 1/2" bigger than stock and is supposed to add close to 8-10hp at the rear wheels.

Borla doesnt make an off road y-pipe for the dual cat cars i dont belive, its only for the single cat cars.

There are only a few options, have a custom one made, stainless works ORP, or a Random Technology ORP. There might be 1 or 2 others.
