what should I do?

OK, this morning when I left my house for church, I noticed my car didn't shift out of third gear. It's an A4. I stopped at a gas station for some petro, and when I left, i pulled it down into first gear. When i took of, it started out in second gear, it wouldn't go into first. So i'm stuck with second and third gears. The tranny fluid was full, no burnt smell, and has only about 25k miles on it. This has actually happened once before. My mechanic pulled the pan and said everything looked fine. Turned out to be the computer, don't exactly know why it affected this and nothing else though. It cost me about $300 for another and to put it in. So my question is, should i just go ahead and order a custom tuned PCM, say from Madwolf or PCMforless, since it would be significantly cheaper or what? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Cool

Some previous posts have suggested that there could be an issue on the electric trans you have(acually I think it's on the outside of the trans, but dunno)some kind of module or something that goes bad.Might check this out.My02(Mine is a 93,non electric).

I would scan the pcm for trouble codes, first. You may have a code related to the transmission controls/solenoids.
