What setting on a digital multimeter would I use to test voltage on sensors?

Ok, I went today an bought a digital multimeter to check the voltage on my sensors to make sure it's not the wiring, but the sensors messing up themselves. Now the only one they had at Advance has 17 different settings. Which one should I use? It has V (straight line with dotted line below it), V (tildea not sure on the spelling) and a Roman symbol like a horseshoe. It also has an A like the V with the lines. They have all have variations like 20, 200, 2000 with m's and k's on some of them. So what would I use to make sure I get a good reading and not blow my wiring?

V w/ straight line, on like 20. That will check DC voltage under 20 V. The roman symbol is omega & it is for checking ohms (resistance).
