what scanning equipment do you use?

i am looking at buying a scanning tool/equipment. i know they make scanners for $40 or so but i bet they are junk. i am not sure what to get. i do have a laptop so i could use that if need be. i have thought about scanmaster but don't know if others are better or easier to use. i don't want something that takes a rocket scientist to operate. i don't mind reading directions to use the equipment but don't need anything out of this world. if i have to spend a couple hundred or less, it would be great. it will be used on a 1995 z28. any suggestions???

95Z is OBDI usually with an OBDII connector. You can buy a cable from AKMCables (do a search for this name, it should popup quickly, the guys last name is Mattei). These cables are about $40.

Then you can use Freescan , which is as the name suggests free You can download it from the link above. It allows you to log data, have an extensive simulated dash with gauges for pretty much everything and read/erase codes.

This is what I use and I am very happy with it!
