What RTV for intake leak fix

I know alot of people use the Permatex Ultra Copper RTV.

A local fbody shop owner told me he prefers using some kind of Toyota rtv material because it doesn't dry as hard as the copper rtv, which gives some slack for different thermal expansion rates.

Anyways, what have you used and what kind of results have you had?

I used to use what ever I had laying around. I used the right stuff last time so I wouldn't have to wait the 24 hours for the RTV to cure.

I am one of the people who have always used thr RTV Copper but I have a buddy of mine that uses 100% silicone on his intakes and has been doing so for years. He just lets the silicone dry down to where the outside of the bead loses it's "glossiness", or gets kinda hazed over and then puts the intake on. And for as long as I have known him, he has never had an intake leak that I know of.

I haven't done it yet, but when I do fix my intake leak I'm gonna use Permatex Ultra Black. Just partial to it, but I've heard good things about Ultra Copper too. I would definitely let it cure for at least 24 hours, no matter what anyone else says. No sense in doing it twice just because you wanna be in a hurry.

"The Right Stuff" is the best you can get but it's not cheap. I wouldn't use 100% silicone as it's not compatible with oxygen sensors.

Yeah you may have a point there KENS. About all my buddy builds is traditional carburated small blocks. Right now he has a 406 in an S-10 and its on the 3rd season now. But, then again, I never thought about the O2 sensors. Good call !

I use 'The Right Stuff' as well. Sets up in about a minute. And no need to wait 24 hours afterwards.

I am going with this stuff this time around. He is right it is not cheap @ 20.00 on summit. It is made by permatex BTW for the post above me. Just search permatex in the search on Jegs or summit's web site.

I'm pretty sure Autozone sells this stuff too. So it might be worth trying your local parts store instead of paying Summit's handling fees.
