Question At what RPM, does this cam make max power?

Compucam 104227, grind number 2033,
Min-Max RPM 2K-6K, valve float 6500,
Lift: intake @ cam 319/ exhaust @ cam 345,
Lift: intake @ valve 479/ exhaust @valve 518,
Advetised: 272/286

CAM TIMING: .050 TAPPET
OPENS CLOSES MAX LIFT
Intake: 2.0 ATDC 32.0 ABDC 107
Exhaust: 49.0 BBDC 5.0 BTDC 117
Duration: 210 / 224

With a small cam like this, would it benefit me to adjust shift points or leave them stock? Thanks.

Sorry, I copied it off of the Cam spec card. How about just Compucam 104227 210/224, 2-6K rpm 6.5K valve float.

Yes change your shiftpoints, but you only up to 6200 or so. Almost any decent cam swap will require higher than stock shiftpoints to get the most out of it.

If my cam only makes power up to 6K, whay would I want the shift points past that (6200)? I thought shifting after peak power, you would lose power? Unless I misunderstund your post.

You usually want to shift a few hundred RPM's after it makes peak power....the HP curve doesn't fall off THAT fast.

Thanks for the info. This is prob. a stupid question, if the cam makes power from 2K to 6K, 6k is the max power. I thought it would fall somewhere before 6k.

The rpm range given by a cam manufacturer doesn't always mean the top of that range is the max hp as different size engines may get this cam. It's just a range of where the cam tends to be strongest. On a 400, it might peak around 5000 or even lower, but on a 302 Chevy, it may peak closer to 6k, maybe a little higher depending on the other mods.

Thanks, that makes sense. The stock cam max power is at 5200 rpm, I believe. Since this is a touch bigger, I was thinking 5350 to 5400 rpm?? Sound about right.

I'd say around 5500 with a good tune and long tubes.
