What resets after 5-10 seconds of off time?

ok mines been acting up. If I drive for a few mintues itll start. It doesnt want to go past half thottle and then 40% and then 30% and then I have to pull over. If I kill it and wait about 5-10 seconds and restart Im fine for another few miles then the cycle repeats. I can do this over and over all day. If I go past those points itll bog and I can smell gas bad! If I let off the thottle I get a huge backfire. I have a a/f ratio gauge but its only on the left side and it usually reads lean, really lean. I just replaced the plugs so I know thats not it cuz it was doing it before
Also if I roll into it from a start itll shift at about 3200 into second( I have a 2400 stall is this normal?) even if Im getting into it I might get it up to about 3500 and thats at full thottle. Itll wait till 3k to go into 3rd and about 2800 for OD. Is this shifting normal for a stall converter? Ive never had one.

Don't know how your a/f meter is wired in, but could the install be affecting your regular O2 sensor(s)?

Can't help you with the characteristics of the stall.

Any way to scan it or post any scan logs?

Sounds serious. How does the oil smell? Sniff and check the dipstick. Also, check the coolant.. are there any abnormal colors? Is there a "brown chocolate paste" on the inside of your oil cap?

I'd be concerned that your oil will smell like fuel.

Also, 2nd the vote for any set codes...

ive been trying to get the computer read but for some reason it wont. I have a painless harness in there and a few people said they have had issues reading the computer off those.

Well whatever it is I think its effecting the shifting more than I thought it was. I just had to come back from trying to get to work. Dam thing was not wanting to shift out of first then it started just slipping out of gear in 2nd or 3rd! So now Im out of time at work

Well its a shot in the dark but it could be a coil or ignition module. Those two items especially the ign module can affect the engine like that if I understand your symptoms correctly. As far as the tranny goes that may be a response to the poor engine performance.

i replaced the icm about 2 weeks ago but just incase I just ordered another one being as the first one died on me too. I was thinking it might be that as it seems to build up a tolerance as I drive. First 50% than 40% than 30%...... Thats the only piece I can think of other than the computer itself that could do something like that. The rest are just sensors cept the coil. Could It also have something to do with my MSD 6A?

ive reread your post and the first have sounds like a stoped up cat. but the last have i dont no about because i dont see why the tranny would shift like that unless the pcm sees it underload or not underload. i dont know.

i might not have showed you the light at the end of the tunnel. but maybe i pointed you in the right direction. just trying to help

good luck.

Download FreeScan... it's free. Then give us some data logs (.csv). There could be a number of poor driveability issues like MAF or TPS. But before you start removing components, let's do some testing...

I believe it is AKM cables... at www.akmcables.com

Once you get that, then you can also edit with LT1 Edit or TunerCat.

ok I took it to my uncle today and he tested the injectors with a little light made for that and they all are firing from the computer. #7 wasnt firing right so we took out the spark plug wire and out it on a spark tester and got no spark! We tested another wire on that spot and only got a spark! ONE. We took the MSD coil out and tried a stock one and it got spark but they were all over the place and he said they should all hit on the same spot. We retested #7 and got spark also. It seemed that the new NGK I got was bad so we replaced it.

Its still loading up and flooding if I give it too much gas but now its taking alot longer to do so.

As far as scanning it, we tried with a Pathfinder scanner and it said that it couldnt read from the computer. Ive heard that people have trouble with the Painless harnesses and reading computers
