What is this part?

Just a little background on the situation. I got into a pretty bad front end accident with my Z a few months ago and i've been slowly putting her back together. I'm almost to the point where i can get her to run again. Last Wednesday i got around to filling the new radiator and noticed a bad coolant leak from under the car. Got up under there and found out where it was coming from. It's in the heater line going to the heater core, a plastic piece held in between two metal crimp clamps. Here it is...

Looks like it was pushed up aginst the belt or a pully and a hole was burned threw it. Now, this is my first dealings with the cooling/heating system and i really have no clue what this thing is. What is it? What deos it do? Can i just bypass it with some hose? Any and all help is apreciated.

Thank you.

If it's straight through inside it, I don't see why you can't just bypass it....

Re: What is this part?

It's a flow reducer. Some people have bypassed it with no ill effects.

You canjust buy the flow control vavle by it's self from the dealer. I did a few years ago when I replaced my water pump.
