hey guys i have been running on 93 octane just wondering what your guy's thoughts are about that

 

my car hasnt seen anything but 93 as far as ive owned it.....but i have a hotter chip so...

 

I usually run 89 octane, which is the cheapest stuff here in Iowa. When I feel like spending money I run 91 or 92. I have noticed no losses or gains from switching octanes. I do alot of highway driving but when in town I usually try to run 91 or 92. My .02 cents

 

i have heard alot about these "chips" what do they do and how much? and where can i get them?

 

never less than 93, usuallt Chevron, and usually from newer stations. But I am real picky...

 

My car has seen 87 for about two weeks in the past. This was when us in Florida got hit with 3 hurricanes and hardly any gas stations had any gas at all, and almost all that even had gas only had 87. My car had a little detonation when I floored it, but as long as I stayed under 3k rpms I was fine. Mine doesn't see anything but 92-93 now.

 

The highest octane I've seen in my state is 91 so that's what I run.

 

Only the 93 cars use chips, all others have to be reprogramed. One of the normal reprograming tricks is to make the spark advance table more aggressive witch leads to a higher octane requirement.

I run my car with the below mods on 89. It runs flawlessly and scans have verrified that I have no knock retard. This tells me 89 is sufficient.

 

Unless you have advanced your timing, there is no need to run a higher octane if your engine is in good condition. Higher octane will not increase power of improve economy. It only prevents knock in high compression engines. Try low grade, and as long as there is no knock, you will be just as good off using it as you would premium. I only use 89, no need for anything else.

doesnt it say to run premium fuels only on the gas cap or somthing like that? i run 91 cuzz that s as hih as it gets in my state and when im going to do some fun im i run it with some octane booster.

 

I run 91... about the highest I can find around here anyway. Once I got sick of paying the price and dumped in some 87 octane. On the highway if Id lean too much into the throttle in 5th and 6th gear you could hear detonation. After that I always used 91 and never had any problems.

 

I run eather 91 non-oxy or 93. Some times when I like to spend 3.69 a gallon, I get some 110 and put a few gallons in with it. I love the smell of 110 octane!!!!!!

I run 91 octane, but it's the highest around here. I am thinking about using some octane boost for it to see what happens. anyone know of a good brand octane boost to use? I've heard the 104+ is pretty good.
