Question What is the normal temperature supposed to be...

for an LT1 engine at idle when the car is sitting still? My 1997 SS goes just over 210 and then it cools back down just below that. Is this normal?

Yes, the motors do run warm from the factory. What you are describing is normal operation.

Stock thermostat is 180. It should run at about 180 give or take a few *'s when warm, but if you are in stop and go traffic it will get to about 210 until you get up to regular speed. Sounds normal to me.
