Hello everyone. My brother recently purchased a 1997 Trans Am WS6 and we're trying to figure out what modifications were done to it without taking the car apart. We took it to the dyno a couple weeks back and it dynoed 338 horsepower and 322 ft/lb of torque.
That's nearly as much as my stock LS2 made.
Anyway, judging by the dyno graph and the idle of the car, I'd say it's got a cam, and obviously exhaust upgrades (it's insanely loud), including headers (as far as I can tell, since they look so different from anything I've seen).
Can you guys tell me some mods which would produce that kind of horsepower/torque? Would a cam, headers, cat-back and K&N air filter produce 338 horsepower?

post pics of the engine bay, and get a sound clip. It probably has the hotcam or CC502 cam and a few bolt ons.

Here's a picture of the exhaust manifold or headers...I believe it's headers, but they look rather odd compared to what I'm used to (ls1/ls2 engines).
We can get the exhaust clip, as well as video of the engine bay on Sunday since he'll be up this way.

Do you happen to know the specs on the HotCam? I suspect that's what he's got too since they're relatively common. Also, do you know what these engines dynoed stock?

 

Yeah that's definitely headers....

 

stock they'll dyno 260-270 on a dynojet.

I'd suspect an LT4 hotcam. That along with headers, catback and a cai would make those numbers.

The Hotcam is 218/228 on a 112 0.525 intake and exhaust lift with 1.6 rockers that came stock on LT4 motors. I would think he has a LT4 motor with a full exhaust and I can see that putting down 338 with stock LT4 heads. Get the heads ported and a tune and he could probably put down a lot more. I don't know the production numbers of the WS6 LT4's but I don't think they are that common. That cam is a common upgrade but I don't think the car is all that common.

Looks like a cammed LT1 to me, intake does not look red! Those valve covers were stock on LT1 C4s for years.

 

no that is hot cam, headers and I would not be surprised if someone has not already played with those heads. My old z with hotcam heads and full exhaust made 340/330rwtq. I would put a paycheck on it. Is it a six speed or auto?? If it is an auto i stick by my story. If it is a six speed, cam only.

my 96 ta put 298rwhp-308tq with stock manifolds with a full LT4 swap/hotcam. My intake is silver as well. But my swap was done with car still under warranty, so to keep getting **** fixed at the dealer, the intake was sandblasted.
