What are the major problems?

What are the most common problems with the LT1 engine from 93'-97'? I heard something about Opti-spark, is this a major problem? Are these usually worthy engines as long as you do the regular maintenance checks?

optispark is just the usual prob with 93-97 owners...i have replaced mine once but only b/c some retard mechanic dripped coolant on it..if you maintain a LT1 it will last you forever...im on 86K and mine reuns like a beast...oh ya there is that infamous rear intake manifold leak but ive never had it and its a easy fix if it happens..hope this helps.

The Opti-spark is the LT1’s distributor that is mounted on the front of the engine above the crank pull where it is susceptible to moisture from road spray and leaky Water Pumps.

The water pumps and opti-sparks are the only real problem areas. They usually go out around 70k (but not without warning), cost a couple hundred dollars and a day of wrenching to replace, and will last another 70k or so if installed correctly.

Other than that, these motors are pretty rugged. Unlike my RX7 which keeps breaking all of the ****ing time.
