What was it like when your opti went?

I ask this question because after washing my motor Im definetly having some serious ignition issues or who knows what, maybe the computer is garbage now.

Everything I read on optis going people say "i replaced mine cause everytime I drove through a puddle it went out"
Ok so that means it came back?

Or "my opti went out while driving"
OK and then what? It just wouldnt start or did it have symptoms like mine, trying to start here and there but backfiring and etc... like the timming is way off.

Im just curious if Im like some rare opti case or if this is the case everytime one goes out.

Is it the optical sensor that goes bad when it gets wet or is it the electronics or both?
What do the electronics do again? Would they be able to tell the comp not to spark on a certain cylindar or spark waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early or waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to late on a cylindar?

I have read through at least 15 bad opti threads and cant find answers to any of my questions.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I was driving mine trying to enter an on-ramp to hit the hwy, and then BOOM!! it sounded like some fired a shot gun at point blank range at me. Scared the crap out of me and my roommate at the time. I had to leave it in a bad part of town for the night to have it towed to the dealership the next day.

Mine was doused in coolant for about a week before I found out what was going on. I let it sit out in the sun for about a week and put it back on and it was fine and after 4 or more years it still works fine.

No Im just tired thats why I havent responded. Was up till 2 and had to get up at 7 for work.
I have no problem replacing it if it will fix the problem and if the one I have really isnt good anymore, I mean If it cant just dry out.

I can take a heat gun to it or possibly even take it off and let it dry out, maybe Ill do that tonight so I can bring it home to dry out.
Right now my buddy needs his garage all the time so my car just gets moved in and out, never really has a chance to get fully warmed up in the garage.

These responses are actually exactly what I want to hear, even made my morning better.

Thanks

also the only reason I still question what to do with this one is because I still have hope for it, like I said it never gave me a single problem. My car would start so easliy each and everytime. Then 1 act and now nuthing so if it can be revived Id like to keep using it because its never let me down (except when it was completely 100% my fault).

Wow... that'll teach me to take anything type written literally and know there's a double meaning hidden in there somewhere.

Good luck to you.
