What kind of summer tires?
What kind of summer tires?
I had a blowout on one of my Eagle F1's, and since the other 3 have a little less than 1/4 tread, I guess it's time to replace them as opposed to running mismatched tires. Size is 275/40ZR17.
I don't drive my car in the snow or rain, yet I still want a tire that still has 'some' degree of wet weather traction. I'd also like a tire that minimizes my cars tendency to follow every grove in the pavement, but I realize thats to be expected in low profile performance tires.
Local store has some Dunlop Sport 9000 for $150/each, and I was also looking at the BFG KDW's on the tirerack.
Anyone had any positive or negative experiences with either of these tires? Anything else you guys could recommend at a reasonable price?
Thanks
Chris

Personally for a cheap tire I really like the dunlops. A good friend of mine had a set of those and then went to the BFG KDW and he said after a few hundred miles the KDWs didnt hook near as well as they did when new.
For a little more money a great all around tire is the Firestone Firehawk SV50ep. They hook great after a good burnout and run good if you get cought in the rain.

I know 2 guys running the Yokohama AVS ES100 and 3 running the Sumitomo HTR ZII. Those two are the best comprimise between perfomance, looks, and price IMO. I just ordered 245/45/17s Sumi's for the front of my car, don't have them onyet though. I wanted something a lil narrower than my 275 Nittos in the rear.

Firestone SZ50 EP's. No one seems to know to much about these, I recently bought four and i can tell you, they are awsome, the wet traction brakeing/accel is insane. But the dry traction, i sware these tires fell better than the Nitto's I had on it in the rear, they are actually good at off the line traction, you would'nt never think so.

I'll agree with that. My cousin has them on his car and they are really sticky. Last winter they sucked *** cold though. Your looking for a summer tire so if those are in your pricerange they are good too.

) Damn Fridays!
I looked at the Firestones but they were kinda pricy at the tirerack $177/each. Does anybody know where I can get them for a bit cheaper? Are the Firestones really worth the price difference?
I would liked to have stayed in the ~$150 range.
KCFormula: How did your friend with the Dunlop's feel about their cornering?
I really want the total package: standing start traction, cornering, and braking, and I dont want to be totally screwed if I get caught in a downpour.

I honestly would'nt know where you can get them real cheap(about 100 each), a friend of a friend of mine made me a deal that is a local car club called ok-speed here in oklahoma. They may not be worth the extra money since they are so so pricey, but I guarantee you they are awsome tires. It's a guarantee that you will notice a difference in the corning and dry traction, but the wet traction/corning is where the tires actually shine. You can actually take corners in heavy rain with confidence, plus the EP(is extended performance) they last a long as time(if you take care of them that is, theres no need for big burnouts at the track, just clean em off a little and go)......Hope this helps
What im trying to say is NO, i wouldnt pay 170+ for them, but if you could find them for 100-135 if would defenetely spring for them.
