could somebody please tell me what gears i have in my stock 96 Z, also do you think adding flowmaster exhaust will give me real horsepower gains? thanks

 

You car should have 2.73's in them

If the Flows are just tips probably not but if it's a full Ex. then yeah it should

 

if you have a M6, you have 3.42 gears.
any after market exhaust system will give you horsepower over the restricted factory one.

 

well, for the gears, there are two ways to get a pretty good guess, but the only "surefire" way is to take of the cover and count the teeth

1. look on your gear selector (shifter) in the car. you should see a D, D, 2 and maybe a selection for 1. if you have the selection for 1, than you have 3.23s. if it doesnt show the option for 1, then you have 2.73s. now assuming the previous owner didnt change the gears out, this is a definate way to check.

2. you can go out and cruise. regardless of what your shifter has for options, theres always the chance the previous owner DID swap out gears. if your RPMs are up around 2,5k or higher at 65-70mph, than its a pretty good sign that they have been switched.


as for the Flowmaster, if its just the muffler, your getting maybe 5hp or so. a full catback would help more.

scratch that last post about the gears. i see you are M6. you either have 3.23s or 3.42s. how to tell? i have no idea...

Look on the big white sticker that is either on the back side of your driver side door, or in your glove box.
There will be TONS of gibberish written on it. Thank God it's in alphabetical order .

Look down to the G's. You will have either GU2, GU3 or GU5.

GU2 = 2.73
GU3 = 3.23
GU5 = 3.42
