what kind of gas?

i was just wondering what kind of gas i should be running with my 396. it has 11.7-1 compression. i was told to use the highest octain at the pump and i have been doing so. i'd also like to know what kind of additives i should be adding to my gas to help my engine out. i only drive it on nice weekends. any info would be great thanks

92 or 93 pump gas should be fine (wich ever you have). As far as additives go, I don't really think it's a good idea to put that crap in your motor. Maybe a little octain booster every now and then but that's about it. If you go to the track at all. Drive your car there almost empty and get about a 1/4 of a tank of racing fuel. You should have good results.

i used only 93 on my 350. And i second that regarding the additives. I believe additives will yield minimal results if any. Waste of money in my book.

ive seen race gas rated at 102-112 octane. 91 octane should be fine for street use. race gas can also be bought at some airports.

although im not sure, ive heard higher octane gas burns cleaner. ive used octane boosters that you can buy at autozone, and i found no difference.

I got some gas once at a small local airport once, I think it was 112 octain. It made a nice diff. in a 1990 454 SS I use to have that I converted to carburator. I think our nearest track only has Sunoco 100 octain. Even that makes a nice little diff. as well. As far as the other stuff your talking about I don't know anything about it. But I would prolly steer clear of it.

i couldnt tell any difference with the octane booster, asfar as the cam II, i have never tried. I think your best bet is to get some race gas.

No problem, I'm always glad to help. The race gas is probably $3/gallon.
