What i want to do for exhaust, suggestion

what i would like to do, by the way stock z here(look at mods), no exhaust work, i want to get the hooket LT's for sure, then i would like to get a custom/aftermarket y-pipe, but i was thinking of going from the y-pipe into a 4inch pipe ran in the stock location all the way to the back and a borla muffler in stock location...and then dumped right infront of the rearbumper....any idea's????

i wanna go good, and cheap, i figured i could have all this done at a local muffler shop....

the question is really...do you think that the 4in pipe is to much or to little, its just a single 4 inch pipe, although i would probavly be getting 3.75 as it is much more common....also i would consider a true dual system if it was cheap enough anyone have any links.....

opinions please....thanks in advance guys

wow, you used borla and cheap in the same post!

The borla is gonna cut it down to 3" at the cutout anyways. i don't really like the borla adjustable personally. I have the nonadjustable rear section and think it sounds a lot better. of course i'm ditchin that for a 3" sys anyways.

I think if your doin LTs you might as well maximize them with DUALS!!! there are plenty of duals posts floatin around, try a search for prrices

or did you mean one of the borla race series 4" i guess?? that'd be better, but duals rule, just not on my lowered car.

see that the things, ground clearance is a problem...so i might wanna stay away from true duals..noise/resonacne is also an issue, i'am pretty into stereo stuff

also about my sys idea...i talking about a non-adjustable just the muffler from jegs or summit...only 100 dollars...in just talking about the normal muffler with 1) 3" entrance and 2) 2.5 inch exits
of course i would use some kinda of a reducer to go from the 3.75 pipe down to the 3" entrance on the borla muffler....what do you guys think....

what part number is that?

although there will be minor benefit from the 4" intermdiate, the smaller restrictive muffler will trump it. i deal with modeling flow of gasses all the time at work, a lot of the time we just skip the striaght runs and only model the elbows and other restrictions because their effects are on a higher order of magnitude unless the striaght run is really long.

They have a 4" in the xr1 raceline http://borla.com/motorsports/?cartID...55764.9.41.187

oval, round, all sorts of types. Problem is noone really runs them so you're not gonna find any soundclips. You'll have to be the trendsetter which isn't neccessarly a bad thing.

sounds ****ing awsome!!!!!!!!!!! but i worry about interior resonance because as i say, i am a ***** and my car is daily driver.......its will defineteley have the hooker LT's and i could do this true x setup no problem....but how louds is it really though? i am only concerned with sound levels at 1750-2100 rpm, as i am 2.73 car and that is where i cruise at.....I WANT WOT to be loud as hell, and accelerating too, iam going for the exact sound in this vid....its mean

does anyone have any suggestion on how i can accomplish this, or anyone with true duals xpipe setup with good wot and accel, but low interior noise at cruise?????????????

anywayz.....anyone help me with making a true dual/x pipe system that is quiet at cruise and idle and awsome at WOT......i WOULD sacrafice sound at wot for "less interior resonance" please help!!!!

run them all the way back to take care of the interior resonance. It'll change the sound out back a lil. 3" duals are quite at idle and low throttle according to some people. I don't have them though so thats second hand info. Where are all the duals gurus tonight??? There are a lot of duals posts over on fbody.com. This damn pentium II computer has no sound, my POS sony laptop took a dive yesterday.

hmm.. I run two three inch pipes with an x and they turn out at the rear wheels.. I use car chemistry collector inserts in the Hooker LT's... Yes it's loud Parking garages are pretty fun now. Yes, it's my daily driver.. infact I do a whole lot of interstate driving with it.. but I'm young (21) and enjoy a loud obnoxious car that wakes the neighbors If you want a loud WOT tone but a tame idle I've heard spintech's mufflers do exactly that and are very non restrictive.. of course they're expensive but not any more than that borla stuff. If you're paying someone to custom fabb it for you I'm guessing it'll be super expensive. Heck the 3 inch pipe alone is darn expensive.. 4 inch is unreal. Then if you're paying someone to do it.. ouch. If you can weld I'd recommend doing it yourself but buy something to cut the pipe with.. I never want to see a hack saw again.

Another option would be Mufflex - they make a 4 inch system that goes up and over the axle and dumps at the rear bumper.. best part is, the system is availabe with a spintech muffler but I think it's upwards of $500.

edit: it's really not too bad at idle and low rpms.. infact the inserts seem to drone less than the bullets I was using (30" each) but I dunno how restrictive they are. No, it's not like a lexus.. but it's not supposed to be. When you get on it though.. wow, people turn their heads

If you do the math, two 3 inch pipes should flow a bit more than a single 4 inch but a 4 inch will out flow two 2.5 inch pipes. Of course, there is more surface area in two pipes so there is more friction.. but, two pipes would disperse heat faster and thus the gas would contract.. all that is moot anyways.. point is, I think all in all either setup is way overkill for a mildly modded car. Heck, a single 3 inch pipe would probably be fine. I just wanted something.. different.. and LOUD

hey 94 formula, so are 3" duals quieter than 2"?

also, can i use the spintechs with the true dual xpipe setup?, are they of the same designs as say the flo-pro twisters?
http://www.flopro.com/Twister.htm

does anyone have true duals w/ diff muffers that are quiet at idle and mean at wot?

All I'm gonna say is loud is all relative...

I think you should try to find someone local with a setup you're considering and ride in their car and see how you like it. Like I said, I really don't think my setup is too loud.. but that's all relative.

I also don't see a reason why you couldn't fit a spintech under the car... I'd make sure the muffler is no thicker than 4 inches for ground clearance reasons. And if your car is lowered I seriously reconsider 3" duals

Hehehe

Well i could suggest two things off the top of my head to quiet it down some. Either a difrent muffler (not a straight through), or use a lot of Dynamat (or similar sound blocking material) on the floor under the carpet.

I have what you posted by kmook... well thats beacuse I bought his car lol... and loud would defintaly be the word. I loved it, so did my friends, but my neighbors and cops hated it. I got a loud muff ticket already so I put on 2 additional mufflers. Lobac's, same external design as the bullits u see ther, but different insides. They quieted it down a little but I would still say it is 90+db at 50 ft away. You cant really hear the bass from the stock speakers, so there goes your love for sterio. Ground clearance is also an issue, I have to be carefull when going up certain ramps to parkinglots, and with 4 people in the car i have to crawl over some speed bumps. But it sounded amazing before the lowbacs, but it still sounds really nice now
