nah, its still obd2. i was just gonna ask if id be able to just use the paperclip count the blinks method. what if I swap in the obd1 computer just to scan it?

I hate to say this but I think it sounds like something let go, because of the fact it won't restart or crank. The puff of smoke is not a good sign either. Best of luck though!

Sounds a lot like what mine did when the opti went out in october.

Mine started as a slight stumble and a pop in the exhaust at idle.

Then on the way home it starts bucking and backfiring and bammo, the car shuts off and I coast off the edge of the highway.

The starter would crank the engine, but the engine would not start.

Take a test light out and check to see if the injectors are getting the signal from the opti.
