What the hell just happened???

Hi, well i just bought a 96 camaro z28 yesterday. When i took it for a test drive it was fine. A few minutes into the drive home i turned off the traction control button. I tried to see the difference with the button on and off. So i spun the tires up and then i punched it and shifted to second and it redlined all through second gear i shifted to 3rd and it stoped. But there was a bad smell after that. I pulled over and noticed that my service engine soon light was now on. I turned the car off and then back on and it was still on. What do you think i could of done to make the light come on? Also do you know if the clutch is adjustable. Because when i test drove it, it engaged really high up. I'm not sure if i burnt the clutch out when i spun the tires up or if i can just adjust it. Any help would be appreciated because i am brand new to camaro's. Thanks.

Ya, I agree. My first thought was the clutch slipping. As for the SES light, I don't know. Like the guy above said, take it to Autozone for a free scan.

So the clutch is not adjustable? What is a good high performance clutch to get besides the centerforce dual friction clutch. Also i live in california, so i can't go to autozone for free checks.

Take a look at the SLP clutch at www.slponline.com

I have their clutch and I recommend it.

I live in Cali myself and here in Sac they will check computers. Also, you may end up with many differing views on which clutch to get, but from what I've read, that CF clutch for the F-body isn't all that great. Do a search on clutches, you'll find a ton.
