what the hell,,,jet hott install????
what the hell,,,jet hott install????
ok, what the hell is up w/ jet hott headers??? i'm on day 3 of my installation, i have the passanger side in, but its litterally rubbing on the side of my car, what the f*uck???/ its gonna catch my car on fire, on the drivers side, i have the steering shaft off, asr box off, valve cover off, and it won't fit in through the top... does it neet to come in the bottom???????? it doesn't seem to fit at any angle....what is going on??? driver's side go in from top or bottom??
When I helped to do jet hot long tubes on my friend's 96 ws6 we got both driver side and passenger side in from the BOTTOM. the driver side we had to take the plastic steering linkage off and disconnect it, for the passenger side we had to take the long 6" bolt out of the motor mount and jack the motor up alittle big and angle the header in. Its a pain!! make sure you have the car high enough, it will help ALOT. Hope this helped. Search the boards, there are many people in the past with the same problem, dozens of posts.
DRIVER SIDE: You have to go in through the bottom and you need to be a good 36" in the air with good safe jackstands, etc. My driver side went in easy from the bottom.
PASSENGER SIDE: I had to come in from the bottom here which is pretty typical from what I've read. I also had to take out the passenger side engine mount and raise the engine about an 1-1/2" to slide that header in. I also had to raise the front passenger side up another 8" (from the already 36") because it needs an almost vertical stab. Not sure why it's hitting your body, assuming you mean the passenger side wheel well? Are you bolted up snug enough to the block to check clearances? Only thing I could think of was your car being wrecked previously maybe and not spec'd back out 100%. Hopefully your not trying to stab that side from the top too, never happen.

1 of 2 things I can think of.
1- You have headers to a different year F-Body and that for some reason is making it scrape
2-Your motor mounts are sagging, and once you replace them the engine will sit where its suppose too and theyll no longer touch ...
If I had to guess, I'd say its definatly #2, How many miles are on those mounts ???

I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one that took a long time to install their headers! I have the same problem with mine. But mine are FLP's. Mine are 1/4 inch from the bottom. I may be cutting and welding the ORP to lower the section where they’re touching. It makes a racket when the engine twists.
If I get new motor mounts wont the engine actually ride higher and interfere even more??
