What the hell is draining my battery? Im at a loss.

Ok i need to know what I should do next to find out whats draining my battery.

I took the sears gold battery to sears..they tested it and said it was fine. Its only 4 months old anyways. I got a new 170 amp alternator right when I got the battery. New belt also.
The battery now dies after ONE DAY. If it sits for a day, ill go out, and the dome lights wont even come on. Put the multimeter up to it and said 1 friggin volt.

Im not leaving on any interior or exterior lights. Everything shuts off like normal. Now I do have a system with a 1200 watt amp and a 1 farad capacitor, but those shut off when the car shuts off...and im not even "booming" when the cars on. Thats not the problem.

The sears guy said it could be something electrical gone bad thats draining power for some reason. What the hell could it be?
Is this gonna be more advanced and I need to take it to an electrical mechanic?

Use common sense. Disconnect ANYTHING aftermarket from the electrical system and see if it still drains. Then hook the other stuff up one by one until the drain comes back. Then fix whatever is draining the battery.

Was the battery fully charged when you installed the Alternator? I have heard (notice came with my replacement alt) you can seriously shorten the life of your alternator if it is paired with an undercharged abttery. One person on this board suggested a screwed up diode (in a toasted alternator) could drain a battery. Have you tested the alternator?

Hope this helps!

There have been several threads lately about how to find a drain on the battery. You will need an ammeter connected in series with the battery. Assuming you see a drain, you can start pulling fuses until it goes away. That gives you a starting point to track it down.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure that the amp turns off when you turn off your car? I would either bet that the amp's remote wire is hooked directly up to a 12v constant, or that your retained accesory power (RAP) is causing the amp to stay on after your key is out of the ignition.

Found the problem. It was the amp draining it.
When I did the ignition switch fix....well I couldnt get the damn steering wheel completely out, so just had to feel around to put the new switch back on. I guess I didnt line it up right, so when I turn off the car it doesnt send the message to turn it off, its still on or something. I mean the radio and everythign are off, but I guess the amp/capacitor comes on at the first turn of it?
It does feel different too when I turn the key...doesnt click all the way, just moves back and the key comes out..kinda hard to explain.

Anyways I took out the fuse so the amp and capacitor arent getting power anymore, and it seems to be fine.
Um is there anyways to hook up some kinda switch to the amp to tell it not to turn on without me telling it to or something? I REALLY dont wanna mess with the steering wheel again, I dont know if I can ever get the thing out...
