What heads would you recommend for this cam?

I currently have a 227/233 112 LSA cam in my 383. What heads would you recommend to go with it? My goal is around 375-400 rwhp, think it's possible with that cam or should I just yank it and do a matching H/C package?

usually toy want to match your heads to your cam. but since your only after ~400rw. I think an le2 package from Lloyd would do the trick. Good luck.

Any reputable head will get a 383ci to 375-400rwhp. You could get an LE2 head, and AI 180 or 190cc head, GTP, ligenfelter, etc. Your power level goal isnt high, therefor any set of heads listed aove will get you here with tuning.

Re: What heads would you recommend for this cam?

I had a 230/232 with a 112 LSA cam in my 383 with AFR heads ported by TPIS, and I made 420 at the wheels. I recently have taken the motor apart and had the heads flown (265 intake, 180 exhaust), and am putting in a different cam for my supercharger. My buddy had his Trick Flow's fully ported and put on the flow bench right after mine and his did 305 intake and 213 exhaust. Either way you go, heads are pretty much one of the largest deciding factors for power. Good luck, although as previously stated, it sounds like you goals are definatly attainable, and you don't need luck, just a decent set of heads!

Yep, you answered your own question, J.

Match the cam to the engine/vehicle/driver desires combination, not vice versa.

You need more than stock heads to make the 383 money worthwhile, and with decent heads, the cam you have will be leaving some torque/power on the table.

The down side is that if you do a decent H/C package, it will be hard holding a 383 down to 375-400 rwhp.

Actually, for a daily driver 4400 Lb. Impy heads like LE2s with a really mild (torquey) custom cam might keep the power in that range and have gobs of torque. That may be how I go on my '96 Impy.

Other H/C providers could do much of the same, but personally I'd go with LE.

You could port your own heads with some bowl work and gasket matching and get 400 rwhp out of your setup with that cam.

If you like the cam you have...stick with it. There is nothing wrong with it.
