Let's move this to the correct "tech" forum - LT1 Based Engine Tech.

Re: What head gasket

What is your target static compression ratio? Have you checked piston-to-valve clearance?

I haven't even built the motor yet just got the block done but I'm needing suggestions on what's a good compression on this build and what head gasket would work with it, as far as clearance not checked yet, but going to.

On jegs sight it says

Is this true do I need machine work to use em?

Re: What head gasket

You don't need any machine work to use those. I have used them on a couple builds with no problems.

or if you need more compression and P to V is good the GM B-body iron head gasket is .029 thick

What would you guess my compression to be with my set up that I posted above? And what's a good compression ratio to get the max hp out of it with no power adder? What if I did want to add power adder what's a safe compression ratio?

We can't guess without knowing what pistons you have...or are going to get. For naturally aspirated applications you can easily use a compression ratio of 11.5:1 to 13.0:1 with a proper tune. If you want to use nitrous be at the higher end of that range. If you're going with a turbochrger or supercharger the stock 10.4:1 or lower is probably a good plan. If you're going with a low pressure system you can stick to the high end of that range, for higher boost levels you'll probably want lower static compression ratio.

Since you already have the cam chosen, maybe you should give them a call to see what they recommend...

Good luck!

Ditto. Fel-Pro 1074 for the LT1 works just fine for stock heads. My heads have been decked at least 0.003" and I'm using them with no trouble.
