What happens if you gut the Opti?

What would happen if I were to take my old Optispark with a good optical section, and remove the rotor and run the Delteq or LTCC?

The rotor button inside the opti actually holds down the optical disk, so you could cut the end off the button (the beam with the contact point on it), or you could take it to a machine shop (the botton) and have them fabricate an aluminum or steel "botton" to clamp down the disk instead. OR you could go get a piece of aluminum stock, and throw it in your milling machine and make your own (like I'm doing now), and make a sealed body for it as well.

best advice..Get an old one (I'm sure you'll find PLENTY of people her willing to donate!) and gut it and see for yourself. It's pretty simple inside. You'll see pretty quickly why moisture is the enemy of these devices...

Re: What happens if you gut the Opti?

Thanks for the offer, but I have my old one laying around. I just couldn't decide if I wanted to save it, or what.
