what do you think. does a msd box cure opti
What are your opinions? Those of you that have installed and used an MSD aftermarket box or one similar to it, do you think it fixed your failing opti (if failing at all) or WOULD help limp a failing opti along? Kind of a band aid. post away
Re: what do you think. does a msd box cure opti
If anything I think a box could make a failing OPTI completely fail more quickly. With increased voltage/multiple strikes comes more arcing, and the box still uses the signal provided by the OPTI.

I would have to agree with the 2nd reply. What typically fails in the opti is the dielectric between the high-voltage lines in the cap. By adding more voltage, you're just going to make this problem even more pronounced and happen faster.
Re: what do you think. does a msd box cure opti
An ignition box is not going to cure any opti problems. I have been running an MSD box for many years and have not seen any evidence that it contributes to any early opti failure.

I ran an MSD-6A on my 93 for about 7 years and my opti never failed until I changed my water pump in 2000.
You could tell a difference above 4500 rpm with it though when the opti did go bad, it ran worse with the MSD connected then. But with a good opti it was as smooth as could be.
