what do u 6 spd guys launch from with minor mods?
im just curius ... i launch from 2k dump it, and it isnt workin out too good , but if i go any lower , it'l bog, havnt tried dumping higher rpms, figured i'd just spin alot more....but if ur spinin your movin i supose, just curius, what some of u longtube/cai boys launch from in a 6 speed , w/ normal tires
Re: what do u 6 spd guys launch from with minor mods?
With street tires i never got my car to hook by dumping it, at any stage. I always took it to about 2500, 3k and slipped the clutch like I was taking off from a light, just with the higher RPMs. Hell on your clutch though.
Re: what do u 6 spd guys launch from with minor mods?
if dumping it keeps ruining your launches, why dont you try doing a fast slip instead...bad on your clutch, yes....but you have a lot more control in the instance of bogging or spinning
Re: what do u 6 spd guys launch from with minor mods?
I never really had any success hooking on street tires either, it was pretty much leave off of idle or spin. Of course that was on the crappy kuhmo 712's that came on the car when i got it. When i switched over to nittos I was launching at 5k with bolts on on the street.

Here goes..
This is for street tires.
I drive clean around the waterbox.. Fronts and backs stay out of the water... line back up in the "groves" of the track. Do a good 2 second burnout to about 5k. I really think turning the tires over fast is a good thing.. I let the car push forward...
Back up about 4 feet.. I have a feeling this helps the diff lock better or something because I notice more rubber on both sides of the car when I do it. Its supposed to be some oldschooler trick
Then I do a second shorter burn out.. then after that I do a quick 'dry hop' to get a feel of how the car is going to leave.
After that its a matter of part dropping/part feathering the clutch.. Different RPM's with our stock 01 LS1 I'm usually around 4200rpm which nets a 1.93 60 on street tires (not drag radials)

Yep.. a mix between a dump and a light feather... works to net a 1.93 60foot.. On street tires (not et streets... an H rated tire) I can show you timeslips as of last friday
I don't know if it has more in it without getting rid of the 3.42's

I go from idle or maybe 2000 while slipping the clutch a little bit. This would be on street tires. It seems to work ok. Unfortunately I don't have any track times.

!DING! !DING! DING!
We have a winner!!!
finally someone else who knows you do "Short" burnouts on street tires... esp. Nitto's
Re: what do u 6 spd guys launch from with minor mods?
You dont dump the clutch with street tires... you feather the clutch out. Even that for me didnt help much and now my 1 yr old clutch is feeling the wear. If you arent afraid of breaking parts and know you can hook no problems with some good DRs then dump it as high as you can!
Re: what do u 6 spd guys launch from with minor mods?
well the last outing i had the track was prepped verrrry well(gn vs. supra meet)i was on some 255/50/16 comp t/as (bald
)but to my suprise it hooks enough to bogg at 2500,so the next run i launched at 3500 stuck hard enuff to cause the(autozone) clutch to slip past the 60' i netted a 2.18 60',14.17@98.17 this is at 2400'elevation...mods are simple, welfare cai
,slp 1-3/4 shorties,custom 2.5"y-pipe,no cats,no tune!yet!
