I have a set of Bilstein coming any day this week. My question is do I need to replace the upper control arm/lower control arm( I assume these are the bushing type components) with the new shocks or should I just installed the shocks and be done with it because I know when I drive..my rear shocks slam so hard over bumps it's embarrassing.

 

Nothing else my man just the shocks. Unless of course the parts are damaged.

 

It may-be neccesary to replace upper shock mounts. These are from rubber and sometimes upper shock bolt is ro rusty, that it is impossible to open it, without destroying them. But this you will know, once you are in the process of replacing the shocks.

 

I just did Bilsteins a month ago.

I had to use a dremel to cut the top nut off the upper contol arm on the passenger side from so much rust. You can keep the upper control arm easily, it's just time consuming. I think you need a torx bit for the drivers side strut tower size 25?

You will also need a set of spring compressors for the front springs. It needs to be the type of compressor that clamps outside of the springs. Jack stands are also very useful.

You will want an extra pair of hands. I did mine with a buddy of mine, and can't imagine getting things back together by myself. There are just too many things to fit in place for one person.
