What do i need to beat this Foxbody
What do i need to beat this Foxbody
It has a DSS Racing Pro Bullet 306 ci engine, which is a bored out 302. It has a GT-40 Intake, Comp Cams XE274 high lift and duration cam, MAC CAI, 4-angle valves, Crane Gold roller rockers, Ported Edelbrock 351W Heads, BBK long-tube headers, BBK X-Pipe, 3" Flowmasters, no cats, 70MM TB, 75MM MAF, 30 lb. injectors, FMS Aluminum Driveshaft, Tremec 3550, 3.55 gears, Auburn Posi, Pro 5.0 Shifter, SPEC Stage 1 Clutch, and it is dropped 1.5". It is loud as hell and pretty quick. I haven't been to the track yet, and I am waiting to have it dyno-tuned to take it. It was conservatively tuned by JD's Performance and makes 288RWHP and 323RWTQ.
i have 135K on my car now with mods in sig except the 4:11's which are going in next week. We race and i beat him off the line for the most part then his topend kicks in and passes me with no problem. At this point i dont think there is much hope with the miles on my car because that rules out H/C.
So i am thinking building a forged 355 with LE1/2 heads(not sure yet) and a cam in between cc305/306, i would just have llyod custom make one. ANyways he has no times at the track yet, but if any of you are fimilar with stangs and the mods he has done...what do i need to do to compare. i think with the rebuild and some nice heads/cam/Lt's i shouldnt have any problems with him...

Re: What do i need to beat this Foxbody
proves there is no replacement for displacement!! if it was my guess id say he has a little higher #'s then that, if you are looking in going the LLYOD route, you got him no doubt! with LT's the cam/heads, new valvetrain and a tune your sitting at around 405rwhp. thats the route im going when i get outta iraq!
2.00/1.56 heads, 1.6rr's,lifters,p-rods, gm 847, electric h20 pump. SPEC III, and pcmforless tune. il be around 410.
my buddy does head/intake packages. and gets custom cams from comp's. he has VERY competitive prices with LLYOD, and if you wanna know some more hit me up and ill give you his info!!!
anyways G LUCK keep us posted and kick that rustangs ***!!!

Re: What do i need to beat this Foxbody
i know in my 96 i could probably get him with the few things i have done, but if you get ur 4.11's in you should be pushing at least the same power plus ur gears will just over run him like mad then. Gears make such a dif.
got confused for a sec thought u meant 288 was his hp, do you know what hp he's running about?

Re: What do i need to beat this Foxbody
well i kinda beat him off the line, then his car just pulls from me cause seems like my car just runs out of breath..my car is a M6 so it has 3:42's currently, but the 4:11's are going in this week, so we will see how the Z does. But his car has a conservative dyno tune done because he wanted something to drive everyday, so im sure he could find more power out of it. Also mycar is getting tired at 135K, but still runs great.
Also of people say he can hit high 12's in his car with good traction, so thats why i dont think i really have that good of a chance with the way my car is now.
Boy, do i wish i had that Le1/2 combo right about now
His baseline before dyno tune was 252rwhp, then after they tuned it, he is at 288rwhp
here is his car www.cardomain.com/id/whiteheat306
its a nice clean car i gotta admit, BUT I CANT LOSE TO THIS POS!!!!!

Re: What do i need to beat this Foxbody
i work with the kid, and i havent even told him im putting gears in my car..once i get them broken in, im gonna have to race him from a first gear roll like 10-15mph, cause he is always complaing about traction too, should be some fun...hes always talken smack, and i think even if i just pulled my heads off, replaced the valves, maybe ported and polished the heads, and installed a hotcam in there i think i would take him, just enough to give me that "extra stride" i need on this 135K motor i got
Re: What do i need to beat this Foxbody
if he has the edlebrock victor junior or the victor senior heads you need to really need to understand that mustangs are just like our cars, and after owning 15 of them and only 1 camaro so far i can tell you for a fact., from past expirence that if he has that crate motor with stock compression and the listed cam and some victor junior heads that the car should go into the 11`s.
dss makes one hell of a good shortblock and most of them are not 9.0 ( stock ) compression.
actually a stock 5.0 with a b303 cam and a set of victor jr. heads will go in the low 12`s
we need more info on his type of heads he has and the comp. ratio

Re: What do i need to beat this Foxbody
Heads, cam,TB,header's,injectors, and a spot on tune and sticky tires.Run him from a stop 'cause a lowered Mustang WON'T hook unless he did a bunch of changing under the rear.
The last 306 Mustang I built for a customer made 417RWHP (455-460FWHP) on pump gas N/A. Similar to what he has.
Ya have to remember there is about 400lbs difference in the weight,he is lighter and that = 4tenths.
Are ya sure he gave ya the right dyno figures?
Ya need some more HP and a McCloud clutch and the gear and tires and learn how to launch it without bogging or spinning and you are good to go.
If it's only making 288RWHP it's a dog with a loud bark and no bite.

Im thinking he has a 500lb weight advantage, cause i got **THIS** in my trunk which is about another 100-150lbs
With what he's got if it's right should go a lot more than 300RWHP,but who says it's right.
The weight thing will kill ya,that's why ya need the HP. After doing the engine, gear, tires, remove the front sway bar and put an air bag in the R rear,at about 25# pressure. It will Hook and BOOK. O BTW the 4.10 will break easy because of the pinion size. It's no bigger than an egg and no tooth contact area. A set of 3.73 with the Torsional posi(SLP take out),and girdle is a good choice.

Good deal on the rear.
Now make some HP and kick ***.
The 306 in my post runs 11.14-11.16 on 9" Hoosiers and a C-4 1.56-60'no trans brake. Not saying his will but it "should" be capable of close to those times at least mid 11's
