what to do
Ive got the mod bug, and want to cam, and stall my car. I have 124,000 miles but the car runs great. Im lookin to spend as little as I can. Can anyone recommend a shift kit, and Ive got the lt4 springs now. Should I just get a hotcam, or invest in some better springs and get a 503. How much difference should I notice between the cams? Thanks
you are going to get mixed feelings on this one...some people will recommend a rebuild before a cam and some will say slap it in....if you want to take the chance on a cam swap now just be really careful removing and replacing the camshaft itself so you don't bur up the bearings and be really careful to not get any crud inside the motor....you might want to blow everything off real good before you open her up...take the cost of your upgrade, then double it...that's what it will cost for the cam swap...I'm not sure on the springs, you'll prob have to chat w/ someone with that cam....I am sure that you will need new springs if you change the cam....then you can probably go with a different tune.....depends on what you want out of your car..
you do not need to rebuild before cam, but a cam will raise your usable power and overall rpm's, and we all know that rpm's is what kills motors for the most part. some people will not have a problem and some will, its a crap shoot. if you dont go too big on the cam you should be ok though
and i would recommend getting rid of those springs, herron performance has a gp on pac springs right now.

what about a 2800 vig stall? Most my races are from a roll on the street, and a go to the track a few times a month. If im running a 13.3 w/ a 1.99 60' on street tires now, do you think I could hit 12s on street tires w/ thet stall? What about pullies? are they even worth buying? Im trying to keep my 123,000 mile car as reliable as possible, but still hit 12s.
