What do 17x11's weigh?

Well I am wheel shopping and I am looking for the best value vs. weight. I have looked at B. Franker's weight page and I still wonder about the weights, heres what I know and dont know:

27lbs-AFS ZR1 replica, also hear 23lbs???
24lbs-Torq thrust II's this is a guess, anyone really know?
20.5lbs-GM GS rims
20.5lbs-GM ZR1's
20lbs-Fiske M5
20lbs-CCW 17-10

Does anyone know any other company's weights for 17x11's or dispute what I have here. I am also curious about ZO6 18's what do the GM and replica's weigh?

I've got chrome and black AFS ZR1 style wheels in the garage in 17x11 and 17x9.5 and TTII in 17x9.5. I just tried weighing them for you but my damn scale seems to be messing up... I keep getting different weights for the same thing... me!

I'm going to go buy a better damn scale this afternoon and try again for ya

well, when I weighed my 18 inch AFS Z06 wheel, it came out to around 18lbs. keep in mind I weighed myself, then held the wheel and weighed myself again. Dont know how fool proof that is

Thanks for the help so far, weighing yourself and weighing again with the wheel isnt a bad idea, I would think most home scales are more accurate at higher weights. I am looking forward to seeing what those AFS's weight, I have heard 23 or 27lbs. The price is about right for 23lbs.

Thumbs up

I belive it was ~23 lbs is for the true ZR1 rims (like I have ). They were made by AFS, however they are commonly refered to as "A molds" by ZR1 guys. All were silver paint from the factory, however there were some "Dealer optioned" ZR1's in Cali that had them chromed (by AFS I assume, don't know for sure).

The ZR1-like wheels AFS now sells are ~27lbs from what I'm told and have ribbing in gthe back of the spokes. The center cap sizes are also slightly smaller in the replicas (more material).

After chroming the stock ZR1's, the chrome caps they provided (the AFS replica ones) are too loose. It's not bad, however it's clear the stock ZR1's have a larger center cap hole. I've had 2 sets of ZR1's (one painted, one dealer-chrome) and the chrome ones have loose caps... still brainstorming a solution that doesn't include rubber bands to build-up the interior diameter )

my bad... now that your mention it, the GM ones were almost 21, the replicas were 23 or so. (4 lbs seemed like too much...)

On a side note... replacing my 16"x8" chrome Trans Am wheels (with 245's) with 17"x9.5" ZR1's (with 285's) resulted in 0 lbs gain. (although road noise in the convertible did increase a bit, probably due to increased tire stiffness).

Hey zblkhellrzr which rims do you have? Steve I got a little confused by your posts, I have heard that AFS ZR1 replicas weigh 27lbs or 23lbs and I cant tell by what you are saying here. And when you said 23lbs were you talking about 17x11's or the 17x9.5's that you mentioned later. Thanks for the input guys, I hope franker updates his page with this new info. Too bad those ZO6 tires are so expensive, the weight is really attractive, what kind of tires are you guys seeing people use on those rims and what are they paying for them. Well I just looked at the tire rack, the 18 inch Kumho ecsta MX are only $217 and Potenza S-O2's fare $273. My fav 315/35/17 right now is the Goodyear F1 GS D3, it is ranked #1 on the tire rack site, it is $253. Which do you guys think would hook better, the taller Kumho's or the wider Goodyears. I know the goodyears would last longer. Hmmm.. its good to have choices. Those ZO6's would look good.

Depends on the replicas, the ones that stick out more have more weight to them.

The original A mold GM wheels (NOT made by AFS by the way) were around 21lbs each. Most of the original replica ZR1 wheels started off at about 27-29lbs, but then they revised them after a couple of years and most are now down near 23-25lbs.
Here's some info that I've collected over the years:
WS6 17x9" wheels: 20.25lbs
Camaro SS 5 spoke (ZR1 style) 17x9": 20.25lbs
ZR1/GS "A mold" 17x9.5": ~21lbs
ZR1/GS "A mold" 17x11": ~23lbs
Camaro SS 10 spoke: 20.5lbs
Firehawk 17x9": 22lbs
Firehawk 17x9" chrome: 23lbs
16x8" Firebird/Camaro: 19.5lbs
C5 front 17x8.5": 20.5lbs
C5 rear 18.9.5": 23lbs

A Good chrome job will usually only add about 1lb per wheel, BUT many of the early replica ZR1 chrome wheels were extremely heavy (aproaching 30lbs for the 17x9.5" version). The best thing that you can do is call or email the people you are looking at buying from and find out exactly how much their wheels weigh. For a 17x9.5" I wouldn't go with anything over 24lbs, and for 17x11 I wouldn't go over 26lbs. Of course, if the price is reasonably close, always go with the lighter wheel. Personally, I really like the look of the CCW wheels, and they are nice and light too.

Wow, good info, well the only popular wheels we dont have weights for now are the Torq thrust II's and the Enkei's. Did I spell that right? lol Well the GM rims go for 1300 plus shipping, and AFS is all over ebay, I emailed them and they never got back to me on the weight, I will try again, the Black ZR1-GS replica's are going on Ebay for less than $600 plus $70 for shipping. Too bad I want silver or polished for my 25th TA (replica!) It looks like the ZO6 replica's are the way to go weight wise.

I've seen plenty of Silver, Polished and Chrome AFS wheel sets on Ebay going for decent prices. Definitely check with them and find out the weigths, then post them here so we all know. For the prices that the AFS wheels go for, it's almost too good a deal to pass up unless they weigh over 30lbs each.
