What is the difference in 1/4 et between 2.73 and 3.23 A4 car?
I would like to know what the difference is in the 1/4 mile between a 2.73 car and a 3.23 car. My car is a stock 1994 Formula A4 2.73 car, and would I get beat real bad if I was to race a 3.23 stock car in the 1/8 and 1/4. Can you tell a difference in acceleration with the 3.23 gear over the 2.73?
all stock with my old 2.73's i ran a 14.4 at 96 mph
my buddys 94 ran with 3.23's ran 14.4 at 95
both of these were on the same day and about 75* weather
i added 3.42's , 3inch i pipe no muffler and a cai and went 13.88 at 102.5
my buddy with all the boltons and a small converter went 13.80 at 99.5
so stock the gears made no difference

I tend to agree...in equal running cars or the exact same car you might see a .1 or .2 difference but sometimes I even wonder about that because I've seen plenty of 2.73 geared cars run the same as what the autos ran...one interesting note is that the fastest L98 thirdgen I have ever seen in stock condition was a 2.73 geared car and it ran a 14.2 at 98 mph.
People seem to think the 2.73 cars are slow. From threads I have read over time, there is little, if any, difference to a 3.23 car in the ¼ mile (stock to stock). Obviously, they will feel different in various driving conditions, due to the gears.
Hi Jeremychapman.Welcome to the board.I thought all Formulas came with the 3.23 gears, but I'm problably wrong again.Anyway, you can tell by opening the glove box,and see if the code is (GU2=2.73)gears,or (GU5=3.23)gears.Hope this helps.
I pull on stock z28's pretty well, I attributed some of that to the gearing. It would have to make a difference. I'm sure there are fast 2.73's and slow 3.23s out there, but its common sense that the lower geared car will be faster

Did you not read some of the posts saying how close they are in times? "Common sense" tells you that there is little difference stock to stock. If you have mods that can make use of the high rpms that the gearing provides, then it will make a difference.

mine were 2.2 60 ft and his were 2.0 stock moded his were 1.9 and mine were2.19
our tracks always have crappy or no prep
well for whatever this is worth i went from 3.23s in a 6 speed to 3.73s about a month ago.. And wow
WORLD of difference.. im not sure if its just SOTP of what.. but i could never get a chrip in 3rd.. now its not even a issue and it just seems to over all faster.. more power available at the crack of the throttle

but there are tons of people with 3.23's in the 13's stock. Like I said there are fast and slow versions of every car.. I'd have to guess that if you averaged all of them, the 3.23's would tend to be at least a little bit faster. obviously the difference isn't huge until you start making some more top end power, but its still there.
