What did my oil drain plug catch? (pic)

So I went to change the oil and found this hanging off the oil drain plug. Can anyone tell me what it is?

About 6 months ago I found another piece like this but it was slightly bent and before I could take a pic of it, my wife threw it away. I guess this is the other half?

Thanks for the heads-up on the sticky (as you can tell, I haven't kept up with the forum in awhile).

Wow, I'm glad I just finished putting my manifold back on yesterday. I'm going to have soo much fun taking it off and cleaning all the rtv again. Even better is now I get to take the rockers off and adjust them.

How about some info like how long have your Comp R's been in there and what preload have you been using? Also what high revs does the engine see and how often? Might as well throw in what cam, rockers and springs?

Sure, everything was installed professionally May of '04 and the cam was a custom grind from SStrokerace (BRE-M1). The springs I believe are comp 918s (yes LS1 springs). Lifters of course are Comp Rs and preload was set to 0. The car truthfully has only seen a handful of ~6500 revs and was only driven for about 4500 miles before I started to notice a drop in power.

That sucks dude, I know how it feels when I did my valve seals I ended up re doing it now once, not twice, but 3 times. First time I didnt put the seals on right, second time I didnt use LT4 retainers/locks and was nervous, so the last time I put them on w/ the new rockers. Sucked, but in the end it will be worth it.

Given that these retainers seem to be a little weak, I would think that no preload would aggravate the problem with them breaking. The internal plunger would always be exerting pressure on the retainer and pressure might actually increase at higher rpms due to a little lifter pump up.
