What did I screw up?

I was adjusting my rockers with the motor idling and when i loosened the intake valve on the #1 cylinder the rocker jumped off and the got caught up in the rocker next to it. Ended up bending the push rod on the exhaust valve

I heard some pretty serious thumps before i could shut it off. Did the piston hit the valve. I dont have a pushrod so i cant get it running till i find one.

I think you'll be fine. I've had the same thing happen several times when adjusting rockers. Its some what hard to prevent that from happening the first time you start up a motor after having the drive train apart when you are working by yourself. A rocker can back off real quickly when you aren't watching them. I'd say the worst thing that probably happened was lifter damage.

Re: What did I screw up?

Thanks for the replys. How can I check the lifter to make sure nothing is damaged. Do i need to pull it out? Or can i just put pressure on it?

Re: What did I screw up?

You can just stick a magnet in the hole and see if a bunch of lifter guts come up on the magnet when you pull it out.
