Hi. Ok I have decided that since I did 4bolt mains, forged pistons/rods...that I should also do a forged crank for insurance. I know, some of you people claim to run up to 700hp on stock cranks, but I dont want to be one to test that theory. So, with that being said...what cranks are you 700+hp guys using(other than stock, lol)? I dont want to spend $1000 on a crank, but dont want the POS $190 IRON crank either. Also, where do you get it from? I see summit has a few but its basically either a $1000 or $200piece. It would need to support 7000rpms and close to 800hp(thats with 300 of it nitrous)on occasion? So are there any inbetween(like $400 or so) thatll do the job? Thanks!


BTW...the nitrous kit ill be running is the new TNT Dry Direct Port Kit. I never heard of it, till the other day when racinLT1 sent me the link to it. I had to have it and ordered the next day. Cant wait to test out that beast!! No more zex...or compucar for that matter.

I wouldn't use a Chinese forging for a 750 horsepower motor IMO. I would use a Callies Dragonslayer forged crank:

Lol, tell me about it. I just had the rotating assembly balanced with my stock crank and other forged parts..cost was about $300, now Ill have to do it all over again....3 weeks later But, the place felt bad for me and said theyll only charge me $150 since Ive been struggling with this damn project to rebalance another crank. This damn shortblock (by doing it myself) has costed me more than it would have to just buy one from combination or somewhere else.

Im using one of there compition rotating assemblies on a 383 with a procharger d1sc and it put 640 to the ground.I now it's from across the big pond but it's decent lookin crank and he posted that he did not whant to spend a grand on a crank

 

The Callies Dragonslayer is only $759, or about $150 more on the retail end than the Eagle crank. The Callies is well worth the extra bucks. I know Eagle makes good stuff, as evidenced by your motor, but at 750 horse I'd feel alot better with the Callies.

 

Yeah...The callies is a little out of my price range right now for the most part. And, I too dont want anything from China. Hell, even their forged tools break all the time on wimpy nuts. And I have split a few forged in china sockets as well. Im have already put over 10k into this winters mod fest and am going into the poor house shortly, lol. All in the name of speed. If I have to spend the big bucks then I guess it can be done. But I would like to save money on at least something in my project. It seems I have not done anything in the right order and had to pay 2 times for about every part to get it right.

Anyhow, what do you guys think about this one? I question it becasue its farily cheap(for a buy it now)...but the specs seem like it will work, except for the seal.

According to the specs(hp/rpm wise...I think I can squeek by with it. My question now is....can I run a 2piece rear main seal on my LT1 block with it? I have a feeling this will be the Catch 22.

 

looks decent moroso offers a seal adapter to convert the two piece to a one piece pt#38315

Humm, now that I think about it.....I have the stock 1pc seal right now. That crank says its for 2pc. So, wouldnt I need one that converts a 1pc to a 2pc setup but works like a 1 pc? Ah, Ill just do a search and see what I find on the net.

As long as that conversion/adapter works the right way then I think Ill be good to go with that crank. If thats the case, Ill be purchasing that crank in the next day or so, maybe tonight. Ill do a search for the adapeter by moroso and see if itll do the job. Thanks everyone. Gotta love the camaro boards!!

 

Email that Ebay vendor and see if they offer that crank in a one-piece application and save yourself the whole adapter hassle! That seems like a very good price on a forged steel crank!

 

that pt#is for a one piece oil pan that you have will allow you to use that crank if you cant get in a one piece rear main

 

Im going to call them shortly. Im confused on this main seal swap thing, Ill just see what they have to say.

 

Hey crew...I talked to a guy named Mike at that place with the cranks. He said, he does have an order of 1pc cranks coming in, but wont be in till late feb. They will be the same price. Also, I asked him how he can sell them for so cheap. He said he buys at least 300 at a time He also said there are about 3 companines that make them conversion kits for around $60, but couldnt remember anywhere off hand to send me too.


So, Mike383 or anyone else....Can you send me a link, number or something to someone/somewhere I can get a conversion kit from? Thanks.

BTW...he said he has tons of those and you dont have to get it off ebay. He said anyone can just call him and place an order for that $290 price. BTW, if you do order one...tell him Justin told you about it. I told him about posting it on here and he wants to keep track of how many/if any he sells from my post.
