what are the chances of a stretched timing chain
Re: what are the chances of a stretched timing chain
If it's the original timing chain absolutely. But with 140,000 miles there's a ton of other things that I would suspect FIRST before you assume the timing chain is your problem. What symptoms are you seeing?

Re: what are the chances of a stretched timing chain
I actually have around 170,000 miles. I've posted a few treads here before and got allot of help and answers about this problem and went through all that I was told to check and do.
I was thinking one day that the engine feels as if the timing was off.
The car has a hard time starting and sometimes smokes out the intake while cranking, Lower rpm hesitation, miss and studder when I give it a little more gas then usual at lower rpm and sometimes the car jumps a few times, Engine ping while taking off in 1st and reverse while letting off the clutch to get going, rough idle, While scanning with datamaster while idling the rpm's and timing fluctuate, once in a while the engine back fires, Bad gas milage.
I've replaced many parts as a regular tune up and just to do. Opti, cap & rotor, plugs & wires(0.050 gap) Ignition coil, o2 sensors, fuel pressure regulator & fuel pump. I use 91 octane gas.
I've checked, tested and done everything that I have been told from users on this forum.
I don't have a problem changing out the timing chain cause with as many miles I have I think it should be worn.

have you had the injectors cleaned? my car at 130,000 had some similar things as you describe and I did plugs, wires, and cleaned the injectors and it ran better than it ever did for me( got car just under 100,000. If you havent it would probably be money well spent. Think its about $40 plus shipping and they service them and clean them and check flow and a few other checks. There are a couple online that do this service. I had mine done at dealership and its not as through of a job but mine was paid for because I pumped gas from a statiln that had flood water get in car( I was lucky I diagnosed it quickly or may have been out the repairs.

Re: what are the chances of a stretched timing chain
I don't really come here anymore, but I gotta ask you if you are using genuine G.M. part's?If your coil is aftermarket ,then go GM.There are cables going from the distributor that go south. From your story here,I would spend the money and have the car checked out. You are throwing money at what you think is the problem, without a scan from a big computer like the big guys have,I.E.Dealers.Hope this helps. And by the way,I ve never seen anybody replace a timing chain until 240,000mi.My02.

"Did you have the same problems a i'm describing"
It was awhile ago and do not recall specific problems other than the ticking. I do recall that after I did it, it ran better and had more power.
