Upon startup sometimes the car will pop and shoot smoke out the front of the intake. What is the cause of this. Too much fuel or not enought fuel? I don't know but my friends car just started doing this out of the blue. Not all the time just once every blue moon.

Back in the day, we'd see that out of a carbed car when the timing was very retarded. I've also seen it happen to a buddy's LT1 that had the valves adjusted too tight. Is your friends car completely stock?

 

Nope its a 383. That may explain it. He readjusted the valves the other day and I think it's cleared up. Before he'd adj them w/ the car off starting w/ the #1 piston at tdc. After that episode we did w/ it running and backed each one out at a time and adj that way and now it's fine so it seems. Thanks for the response.
