what causes this
what causes this
so its been almost a year since my car last ran and finally just got the time to play around with it. At first i thought it was fuel related but now im starting to lean towards alternator or battery. it has not ran or been started for almost a year as i said before but i have tried little things here and there when time allowed, just tinkering to find problem. But every time i tried to start it i just jumped it from my jeep. but i hooked it up to a battery charger and after about two to three hours i turned it over and it fired right up and ran for about 45 seconds to a minute. and next time i tried to turn it over it cranked about 3-4 times and started clicking auto zone told me the battery tested ok but i also dont trust them very far. but i believe now that it is something in the alternator or battery not keeping enough charge to run the pcm or the car itself. any suggestions here?
Re: what causes this
If the starter is clicking, it is not getting enough juice to start it. Battery or cable connection would be first suspects. The alternator won't keep it from starting, but if it is not charging the battery when the engine is running, the battery is going to run down. Check the voltage when the engine is running. Have your battery tested at another place for a second opinion.
Re: what causes this
me and my father got it started the other night by jumping it while it was connected to a battery charger and it fired right up and ran for about 45 mins till i shut it off then wouldnt start again so last night i bought a new battery for it and it still wont fire now it still acts like fuel now if you put starter fluid in it it runs off that for just a minute but it boggles me because it ran just fine the other night what can make the car just shut down like that
Re: what causes this
so its turning over fine now and will not start? if so check fuel pressure, check spark, check spark plugs. i have seen plugs foul and do this. have seen fuel pump failure do it, have seen icm do this. have seen opti failure do it. have you had it scanned for trouble codes yet?
