What can this motor take? (chime in plz)

ok, so i slapped a deposit down on lt1tko5o's Z...i wanted to know exactly what this 396 can take. he has a twin nozzle system that can jet upto 200hp additional and based on trap speed i figure he's making about 400-425 at the ground n/a...the following thread lists everything done to the car...what do you think she can handle NOS wise and boost-wise?

I didn't see anything about the compression ratio on his 396.

Make sure that high volume oil pump has a bigger pan.

also, i am seeing alot of LE packages around. what kind of results would a LE3 package 383, 396, or 408 see with the parts listed for the current combo?

Ya need bigger heads, cam and intake to make it really produce. Then ya could run on motor what it's running on spray now and without running the risk of hurting it with N2O.

Guessing from the past ones I have built it seems to have plenty of compression. He isn't using dished pistons.

Re: What can this motor take? (chime in plz)

so then in that respect, would the LE3 package really wake this motor up more? or am i still thinking too small? i was thinking of AFR's even though the wait is ridiculous right now...who else does a comparable head? i've only ever used AFR products with excellent results. i was also going to order the lingenfelter LT4 intake and have it modified for the monoblade TB...how about bumpsticks now...the nitrous cam in it now gives it a mean idle. very noticable. i'm a little unsure of the lift but then again how far could i go with flat top pistons on a LT1/4 engine? i'd rather not have to flycut the pistons for clearance if i don't have to...i see the 847/cc306 are both very popular and the LE3 package actually one ups that a little further. maybe i should just give lloyd a buzz and see what he thinks...

Ya need a cam in the upper 240/250@50 range at least on a 108+4 ICL.Yes the LE3 will give ya a better shot but still small. Your pistons will be fine. I have engines making 690'sHP with flat tops so ya are OK. AFR's won't flow much better than a 3 set up @ 3 times the expense.
Ain't worried how it sounds, worry about what it does when ya get on the loud pedal.
LT-4 intake won't fit LT-1 heads without a lot of work.
Larger headers would be good too 1-7/8".
All of this is Dependant on what you want and how fast ya want it to go.
