What can I do for $4K

Ok, so the car is a stock '97 Formula with an A4, hardtop.

I've got around 4K to spend on some mods.
Originally plans were for a ws6 hood, long tubes and catback, torque converter, shift kit and gears.

Lately i've been kicking around the idea of getting a H/C setup with the exhaust mods instead of the hood and trans stuff.

Could I get a LT4 or better/cheaper setup from one of the site sponsers, along with headers, catback and a tune for the above stated 4K?

what would you do?

For 4k you could get a full hotcam setup, headers and a nice catback. Depending on how cheap or expensive you go on the headers and catback is what you have left for maybe a hood, or suspsension upgrades

Re: What can I do for $4K

yall are forgetting one thing...........

that tranny wotn hold all that POWER!!!
if you do h/c get ur tranny built for that power also alogn with stall!!! and exhasut....
tranny should be around 1500$ h/c another 1500$ then ur roller rockers ad valvetrain setup 300$ then ur exhasut for around 400-600$ then that leave you with about 100-300$ for gas

I wouldnt do a cam in an auto without stalling it.... I have a few friends with cammed LS1 full bolt on cars that are AUTO's without stalls... and i beat them when we race... Even though they should win... Without a stall they dont get to their powerband quickly enough.. JMHO

Re: What can I do for $4K

u can afford to play with 4k. lol your post brings smiles to about anyone here on the board. usually, the cheap route is to get the lt1 aluminums hogged out, and throw in a cam, while having the intake port matched and a 52mm tb. of course, don't forget about holding that power with a clutch, rear, etc.......

I would go with the hood, LT headers, catback, stall converter shift kit and gears. Plus you should have some money left too.

Yes, I am seconding it, but nobody is going to listen. My friend has an A4 that is making 400 / 410 at the rears... Has rebuilt his tranny twice and cant find a stall that will hold for very long either... So do heed our advice on this one... Oh yeah, its an LS6 in a 98 Camaro.... But still, if your lookin into big power, it dont mean **** when you break your 1) Tranny, 2) Rear End..... Because then you are going to have a really loud and cool looking car that isnt going to go anywhere besides sit in your driveway.

Sorry man, I have done this a few times and it really isn't imperitive...It may be a good idea to put in a stall though...every auto that has some mods needs a stall

Re: What can I do for $4K

I have given the trans thought as well, originally i was gonna do a stall, shift kit and cooler. I'm contemplating doing a rebuild with good parts on a junk trans I can get my hands on, just need to talk to someone about it as I'm not rel familiar with the 4l60e.

Is it the same basic trans as the 700R4? As far as clutch packs and internals go?
