What camshaft kit?
What camshaft kit?
I'm looking into buying a camshaft kit for my 1994 lt1 camaro (auto). I had some head a cam and heads job done, but it only runs mildly better... I was looking into buying a camshaft kit from comp cams and 3.73 gears. any suggestions to what would give me a siginificant HP gain? (yes, i'm new to the game..

What kind of cam did you put in and what kind of head work was done? Were all the supporting mods and a good tune done as well? If you had both a heads/cam setup done, I would guess your car should be running more then "mildly better."

)Your vage here, as 2000GTP pointed out, for someone to give an answer, more info is needed...

PS: SEARCH "camshafts" and there are alot of threads discussed before on this type of request......
No question is stupid or dumb, just asked a few 1000 times....
about the brand of heads and cam, i dont know but it was tuned.. Some mechanic installed it... said it was custom... it runs about the same as a stock ls1 or a bit faster... I installed edelbrock headers on it, high flow cat, mass air flow sensor, and an air intake... So i wanted to hand choose a camshaft kit. I also want to buy heads that will go along with the camshaft kit but no at the same time due to money restraints... I'm also thinking of adding a be cool radiator since the car runs a lot hotter. So i came here to get advice and also to learn...
There's a really good deal on a Be Cool in the for sale forum. You need to find out what exactly that mechanic did to your car or it's going to be really hard for us to help you out. Do you have a torque converter/gears? What's your suspension setup? Do you have a lowered temp thermostat? What temp do your fans come on?
I set up the fans to be on at all times, from the minute i turn on the switch. as for the thermostat, I just ordered an slp 160 degree... the car is heating up all the way to max, then it just drops and the needle keeps bouncing around... The car is stock, all it had when i bought it was the heads and cam the was installed... but other than that, the only mods it has are the ones mentioned on my prior post... all other mods i've put on are for looks (ss hood, ss spoiler, c5 rims, and two tone interior)
SO thats why i want to purchase a camshaft kit, then the heads.. or i can just wait longer and purchase both at the same time...

yeah prolly the best idea, almost sounds like it could be a gauge problem with the bouncing around thing, has the car ever boiled over or spilled coolant on the ground when the gauge maxxes out
About the package, yes that would be great. However, It would have to wait a bit... becuase i do want to figure out this heating issue... and no, the heating issue didn't come with the heads and cam package... i've had the car for 2 years... it just started heating up recently... my guess its the thermostat getting stuck... i'll post up pictures on my homepage in a bit.

No the car never spilled nor boiled over... its sort of weird... I turn on the car, the temp gauge starts rising... then i rev it up hard, the needle will just drop back to normal... could it have anythign to do with my heater not working either?
