What cam w/stock heads?

Ok, heres the deal..
I want to put a cam in the car...already have some LT's and will be getting a stall, running h-piped tru duals, & walbro 255, tune, along with whats in my sig. My goal is to be runnin anywhere in the 12's (or faster) and ill be happy!

My question is, since i want to do something to the car NOW, but cant afford heads, i want to just do the cam along with some valvetrain stuff, Keeping the stock heads! Nothing else will be getting done to this car for a while except maintenance since its my dd. Also, I know a lot of ppl like to do the H/C package all at once but i just want to do the cam! Would like to hear from others experiences runnin just cam with stock heads. So, is this feesible, if so...

What cam do u reccomend i get?? and if i keep the stock heads and get the 1.6rr's(pro mags?), what other valvetrain or motor parts should i upgrade. Like timing chain, springs, what? if possible, part #'s ect

Well, thanks as always for the much needed info

i would recomend getting a custom grind from bret bauer. its not much extra, maybe 5-75 bucks, and you'll get a cam totally capable of what you want. look at my dyno numbers.....thats on mainly stock heads, and a new motor and a restrictive catback, not to mention it was done in 90* temps last summer. I'd think that once i get the motor broken in and royal purple in it, i can get that up respectably. not bad at all for stock heads

I have a cc503 on my semi daily driver and am very pleased with it with my stock heads. I went with this cam because i have heard it does quite well with some ported heads, so when i upgrade down the road this cam should really wake up and perform even better than it does now. as far as parts pretty much the whole valvetrain should be swapped, except for maybe lifters depending on the mileage and your $$$ situation. my parts list was something like this:

CC503 cam
SVO 30# injectors
BBK 52mm TB
crane 10308 dual valve spring kit(great kit for the money)
Comp Hi-Tech pushrods
Comp Stock Replacement Lifters
GMPP 1.6 S/A RR Kit
LT4 Extreme Duty Timing Set
Thunder Racing Cam Swap Gasket Kit
Waterpump(because i was right there anyways)
Opti(more for piece of mind)
Madz28 Tune

Well, it seems that quite a few ppl like the cc503 so thats prob what ill go with. You also make a good point as to if i EVER did do head work later, that this cam will work good with it which is a plus. Also, i just got some stock replacement lifters off another camaro, those should work ok right?

Well, i guess my biggest questions are, do i need to get the double valve springs and injectors for just the cam? and my biggest problem...deciding between NSA or S/A rr's. Which is better for me if i go with the 503?

I went 12.0 @ almost 113 in Florida with a CC503 on stock heads and supporting mods (I'd suggest a set of 3.73's).

WS6Store has a good price on the cam. In fact I just picked one up from them to do my swap. CC503 is what I am going with as well.

Ok, so heres my shopping list for the cam upgrade so far:

- cc503 cam
- Comp pro mag 1.6rr's, 7/16" NSA w/ gmpp guideplates
- ARP 7/16" studs
- chromeoly pushrods
- stock lifters
- 918 spring set:
+.05" locks, spring locators, springs, & retainers
- LT4 extreme duty timing chain or cloyes double roller if i go electric WP
- New water pump, maybe new opti? No problems with it yet but would hate to tear it down again later...
- 160' thermostat & electric fan switch
- Taylor 8mm wires, ngk tr55 plugs & msd coil...since im going to be putting on my Pacesetter LT headers at the same time - 1" ARP bolts with either Percys "dead-soft" or felpro gaskets for headers.
- Racetronix setup
- fuel filter
- valve seals
- all other gaskets & seals
- Mail order tune

Things im not sure if i should get: SVO 30# injectors, 52mm tb, 3.73 gears?

Sound good? comments..
