What cam for stock heads?

I was going to sell my Trans Am as I can't afford to keep both of my cars on the road however I now decided I want to take it off the road and build it.

I don't really want to pay for ported heads, but I'd like 11 second passes. My car currently has it's mods in the sig. I was thinking of getting a nice cam, some LTs, 58mm TB, 36 lb injectors and finally spray (125 or so). Would 11s be possible on some drag radials/slicks?

So I'm asking what cam you would recommded for my car. It isn't going to be a daily driven car but it will be driven once in awhile, to car shows/cruises etc.

TIA
Andy

Not on motor without a build and heads. Ya need a LOT more than just a cam.

Enough spray will either get ya there or it will go kaboom.

Re: What cam for stock heads?

i think 11's are definately possible.... i ran a 12.3 with set of nitto 555'rs and mods in sig. thats stock bottom- stock heads - shorty headers and 2 cats.

i also was running a 150 wet shot for a while, but never ran it on the track. no problems with it and 110k on the motor.

just take some time and do your research and figure out what mods work best with eachother- also may wanna invest in a 12 bolt if ur aiming for 11's and get good set of slicks

11's without head porting is a TALLLLLLLL order. You will need a suspension setup for the track, and hope that your 10 bolt doesn't go bye-bye because you are going to need one heck of a 60' time to pull of 11's with cam and no head porting.

My $0.02

Re: What cam for stock heads?

I'm also looking to cam my car with stock heads. I was debating between the hotcam, cc305, and cc503. I'm leaning toward the cc503. I've read other posts and people seem to like it and prefer it over the hotcam and cc305. I'm not sure how much bigger you can go on stock heads than a cc503. Plus my other challenge is to try and keep it emissions legal which you may also need to look out for since your in NY unless you have a friend doing your inspections. I've read that people with the hotcam and cc305 have passed emissions even in cali. But I haven't read anything about the cc503 passing yet.

I know there is someone on the board running lls in an A4 ith stock heads, monifolds and the baby crane cam. I think the duration is like 214/228 with lift in the mid .500s.

What about a 383 stroker kit? Is it worth it, if so where do you recommend I get it?

Okay then,

1: What retainers and valve springs should I buy? Is there a whole package deal anywhere?

2: I'm planning on getting the CC503, will this cam work well with ported heads if I go down that road another day?

Re: What cam for stock heads?

well ill tell you i ran a 12.1 in 95 degree heat...on stock suspenchion with longtubes k&n madz28 tune and a off the shelf cc306 with 1.6rr sping it to 6500 with a 3200 stall and 3.73...i used to spin it to 6800 and i think it would go 11s...but i took the shift points down for spray...
get a 3200 stall 4.10 and a cc306 youll be in the 11's on motor...get a custom cam and youll be there with 3.73 daily driveable, not sayin the 306 aint
