Re: What cam to get?

Visit Eportworks.com. Lloyd Elliots LE1 package will make 375 rwhp and if you ask him to, he'll grind you the emissions variant of that cam. He said it makes 10 hp less but passes smog.

Personally I think the le1 cam would pass anyway with some tuning.

BTW, I'm in concord. We have alot of fbody guys out here, you should come to a meet some time!

Re: What cam to get?

the highest numbers I have seen with the hotcam where 352rwhp with allll the bolt ons and long tubes, with true duals. If your looking at 370rwhp, your going to need the gm847 with a really aggressive tune. But say good bye to your driveability...Also is the car a m6 or a4?

Re: What cam to get?

LE makes great stuff, and is an awesome guy. The only thing, is its a lot more expensive than the hotcam kit, because your heads are being done as well. You should base your package you are building on RWHP numbers, but on what you are looking to achieve. If all you care about is rwhp, than im guessing your building a race car. BTW Im Deenasty from the norcal board. Shoot me a pm if you have any questions...

I guess I can live with 350ish rwhp. I will look into the LE1 thing in a couple of seconds. I'll hit you up sometime in concord.

Re: What cam to get?

I checked out the LE1 package and it looks good, but wouldn't they need my heads and then my car would be out for a while. Also I was told that I would need lifters too.

Re: What cam to get?

How does a hot cam sound at idle? Is there any sound clips or someone nearby? I want it to sound like its built and not just loud stock.

Re: What cam to get?

With all the bolt-ons, 350rwhp is achievable with a cc305 or comp xe 224/230. Bump the compression up a bit with some different head gaskets (you can achieve 11.5:1 this way) and get dual exhaust and you may see 370rwhp. Take this same setup with a gm847 and you may see 390rwhp. It's all possible, but you have to tune the heck out of it and keep making changes where need be. To start with, you'll probably see 340-350rwhp with the cc305 or 224/230.

As for your goal of 370rwhp, that would be achievable with stock heads, gm847 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, and comp 987's with stock lifters. Its not good to compare with engines, by altjar put down 365rwhp with a gm847 on stock heads, but he has a 12-bolt. IF he had a 10-bolt, he may have seen 385rwhp or so.

Basically, all BS aside, if you get the gm847, you will see 370rwhp.

Re: What cam to get?

hotcams sound nasty. Look for "liquidcesium" in the timeslip database on fbody.com.

On another note, what do you guys think the LE1 cam could put down on a stock heads car, with only true duals off LTs with tune?

Re: What cam to get?

How much should I expect to pay for cam, lifters, retainers, dyno tune, long tubes, y pipe and install for all of it? Mainly concerned about install cost.

Yeah deenasty is on the money. The install will depend greatly on the quality of the shop.

If you want a good install, at a good price, from a great shop with 10+ years in the business, with certified 30+ yr experienced mechanics, give me a PM. My family owns a shop and I'll be more than happy to get a quote for you tommorow when we open up. I'll even get a couple bucks knocked off for you.

Re: What cam to get?

First of all, you don't want a y-pipe, you want an x-pipe. Dual exhaust will give you more horsepower, especially with a big cam. No, it does not have to cost 600 for longtubes. I constantly see them go for 200-300. I bought some coated hookers a few months ago for 200. I'm not sure where you are, but dyno-tuning down here costs $185. And thats for 5 pulls and 1 hour of tuning.

Another tip: Now would be a good time to learn to do this stuff yourself. Its not that hard. Either buy an instruction manual or find a friend that knows what they're doing.

Re: What cam to get?

Kurt,

You ever drive a F-Body with a x-pipe and dual setup? No need for a radio when you do that, not everyones cup of tea is doing that. I'd also say that long tubes can be had for cheap but if you want good ones your going to spend a lot more than $600 (Kooks for example).

I'm just busting on you because one day you go from asking common easy questions about race manifolds to giving out advice the next..... It's ok to read a lot around here.

Re: What cam to get?

I am sure there are not that many people that know what a single-plane intake is. Especially someone with a stock lt1. I'm simply stating what I know from experience. I am not giving anyone advice in the advanced tech section. And why pay over $600 for kooks when you can find a deal on hookers? Maybe its just me, but I could tell he's on a budget and i was trying to help him.

But..... I don't mind what you said. No offense taken. I don't know that much yet. But I know a good bit about what I do know.
