Question What cam to do over winter with stock heads?

Sinci i have decided to do a cam with LT's and true duals this winter, i was wondering what cam i can get the most performance out of with stock heads. I Have no emissions equipment on the car, and 1.6 RR's already. Let my know what you guys think, also some HP /TQ #'s would be good too! Thanks....

Comp Cams 224/230 XE 112 LSA would be my choice, but I'm biased, see sig for times.

Sorry to go off topic, but how many mph did you pick up with the 3.73's? I'm thinkin about 3.73's later on down the road to help my topend a bit, 3rd gear is just too long.

I'm not sure either, although I think I'm leaning towards the newer 227/233 cam from Combination. I'm keeping my heads stock for now too. Everyone seems to be getting great numbers with the 224/230 and the 230/236. Depends on how big you wanna go.

Seems to be a consistent 2mph pickup from the 3.73's.

CC502 (218/224 0.526/0.536 on a 111 or 110 LSA) or

CC305

Since you dont have to do emissions I would go bigger than the cc305 and hotcam. Ild do somethimg like the 230/236 or cc306....later you could add some nice ported heads and youll make some real nice hp. Go bigger now or youll wish you did later.

With STOCK heads?

Seems like overkill. The biggest I would go is 224/230, but that's just from all the post's I've read about how happy guys are with that cam. I've read too many problems about bigger cams with stock heads.

Of coarse, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I 100% agree with that. Guys are stuffing hude cams into stock headed cars, and while they're putting out pretty good HP numbers, the TQ numbers don't show too well IMO. The CC502, or XE 218/224 as it's also known, is an outstanding match to a set of stock unported heads. On this cam, I forget who it was, but he made 343/343 SAE RWHP/TQ. Granted, you may see more power with a 306 or XE 230/236, but you're definitely not going to see the driveability or efficiency as you would with the 502.

CC502 all the way.

Just my $.02.

If you dont plan to do anything in the future with the heads by all means go with a smaller cam. If you think your gonna do some good heads in the future go bigger. With proper tuning the 230\236 is a very street friendly cam....grind it on a 114 lsa and it will as tame as a hot cam and produce more hp and tq even with the stock heads.

Are you gonna do anything with the heads at all?? full port/polish or anything like that?? I've seen really low 12's with stock heads, and the 306 cam...do you have an M6 or an A4?

I have an A4 and would maybe change the gears and stall, but am not planning on it. My goal is to do a good cam, jet hot longtubes and true duals over the winter and be doen with the car for a while. I spent too much time working on it last year when i should have been driving. I want to do it right, then leave it. I have no intentions of going faster than 12.4-6, although i do want a 12 second car.

The Hotcam and a REAL good tune, would get you there...The gears and converter would also help...a few 1/10's too.
