what cam?

so i blew my motor and am in the process of gettin a new one (think ive found one thanks to this forum) and i have le1 heads and cam. my issue is that i think the le1 cam was too big for what i wanted to do with the car and i am considering going with a smaller cam for street use. id like to make good torque down low and have good all around power. i figure if im gonna do a cam swap, i had better do it while the motor is out of the car. any suggestions?

Crane 104227: 210/224 510/552 w/ 1.6rrs. An RV cam with good low end torque, easy tune and stock like idle. JMHO

That's a nice cam and so is the 212/218 XE from Comp. I know someone who has one for sale too if interested.

Lightbulb Re: what cam?

Just use the LE1 cam. It's probably just as drivable as the stock cam.

Re: what cam?

the issue i sem to be having with the le1 cam is the tight lobe separation not making very good vacuum for me. i was told a wide LSA will make better vacuum

Stop putting so much emphasis on the LSA. What is the overlap?

All things considered.... your low range torque will fall off if you widen the lobe seperation. If you're stuck on the idle quality issue then program a higher idle rpm.

That seems to go against what the cam gurus on this forum tell me.

Our stock cam is a 117* LSA right? Is the stock motor really that much down on power in the lower RPMs compared to a swap to anything with the 112* LSA?

ijm not emphasizing idle quality, my problem with the lower vacuum which ive been told is a result of the low LSA is my ****ty brakes. i want something thats behaves nicer, which i imagine a higher LSA will.

The stock cam is ground as a compromise between performance and emissions.

You will learn alot more from reading this article than I could write here...
